Wednesday May 2, 1894
Merida Chapman, the last one of a large family, died at his home in Putnam County, West Virginia, April the 11th, 1894, aged seventy seven years one month and seventeen days.
This was the first broken link of a large family. In his younger days he took great interest in Sunday School work, but more specially in music, of which he was a leader. He claimed to have been converted years ago, but had never made any public profession which he regretted during his last illness. Some one tried to convince him that Christ was sprinkled, and for him to be, but he could not believe that, and would not do a wrong to cover up his neglect. He was willing to leave all with God, and died trusting in him.
His widow and children whom he leaves to mourn, not as those who have no hope, all are Baptists. After service at the house by the writer his remains were carried to their last resting place by his six sons who attended him during his last days.
