Wife's General Notes

From WV Newspapers Obituaries 1884-1894, Vol. 2, pg. 39-40:

The Charleston Daily Times
Friday, March 28, 1884
(From obituary of sister, Julia)

Nearly half a century ago--how short it seems in looking back over it. Mrs. Sarah Cook, then a widow, with her two springy, vivacious and charming daughters--Misses Sallie and Julia--came from Roanoke County, in the Valley of Virginia, and settled in Charleston, then a village of about a thousand persons, consisting chiefly of Virginia families, and constituting a delightful society.
The Misses Cook were very attractive, very much admired and much courted. They were not long permitted to remain single. They both became happy brides the same evening. The elder, Sallie, as the wife of the late Jamed L. Carr, then a young lawyer from Albemarle County, Virginia; and the younger, Julia as the wife of the late James L. Carr, then a young merchant from Marietta, Ohio. They--the double couple--were married by the Rev. John Martin, then rector of St. John's Church, and in the house now occupied by Mrs. J. H. Fry.

General Notes for Child William Carr
