Saturday September 27, 1884
On Tuesday night, two brothers, Eli and Ahaz Burdett, living on Tupper's Creek in Kanawha County became intoxicated and quarrelled, and had a hand to hand tussle in the bed of the creek near their home. After parting Ahaz pulled a revolver and shot at Charles, another brother who was an observer of the hand to hand conflict, killing him almost instantly. The fratricide at once fled.
