JAMES W. WELCH SUMMONED AT 83
Funeral services for James W. Welch, 83-year-old prominent retired merchant, who died Friday night at his home at Elkview after a short illness, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Elkview Baptist church, of which he was a member. Rev. G. C. Hoff will officiate and burial will follow in the family cemetery near Coco with the Albert Myers and Son's mortuary at Elkview in charge.
Mr. Welch was born in Mercer county, Dec. 5, 1856, son of the late Edward and Lucy Ann (Dodd) Welch, members of pioneer families of Kentucky and Virginia. From 1876 to 1919, Mr. Welch taught in Kanawha county public schools. In 1919 he entered the mercantile business at Elkview from which he retired in 1934.
Surviving Mr. Welch are three daughters, Mrs. Madeline Larch, Boston, Mass.; Mrs. Ora Ross and Mrs. Ocie Clemmer, both of Elkview; four sons, A. D. Welch, Coco; G. E. Welch, Barboursville; G. F. Welch, Wildwood, Fla., and A. J. Welch; two sisters, Mrs. Dottie Keifer of Buffalo Lick and Mrs. Belle Schoolcraft of Nellis; two brothers, Orde Welch of Porter and Jesse Welch of Clendenin, 17 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
