MR. JAMES NEVIUS
The departure of the venerable citizen takes away one more link holding this generation to the one before. He died Tuesday April 26th age seventy seven years. Thirty two of those years he had lived in Charleston. His birth place was Rockbridge county, Virginia, "about two miles from the Augusta line". At the age of sixteen he was apprenticed to the trade of blacksmith, in which useful and honorable occupation he earned his bread, reared his family and made provision for his final days. He begun business; living in Lewisburg, Greenbrier county and while there joined the church under joined the church under Rev. Dr. McElhanny, etc..

James Nevius, Esq., died at his son-in-law's, Wm A. Key, Esq., on last Thursday morning, in the seventy seventh year of his age. Mr. Nevius was one of Charleston's oldest citizens. He was ablacksmith and worked at his trade until a few years ago. He was married twice and both wives have passed to that home above, the last one about a year ago. He was a member of the Kanawha Presbyterian Church for the last forty years. He was a devout Chriatian, and was a constant reader of the bible for many years. He leaves five children by his first wife.
His remaines were laid to rest in Spring Hill cemetery on last Saturday evening. All we can say is, that the dust never craved a purer or better man than Mr. Nevius.
