Sat. July 22, 1882
It is with sadness we are called upon to chronicle the death of our old and honored friend, Rev. Wm. Martin of Poca, who breathed his last on the 5th (sic) of this month. Mr. Martin was perhaps the oldest minister in the valley and one of the last of the Old Line Baptist, and had preached that doctrine since he was eighteen years of age. Peace to his ashes.

from internet correspondent, Chris Paxton, 3-18-2003:
"I was out riding my four wheeler on 3-15-03 and came across a single grave on a hilltop. The headstone read 'Rev W.M Martin Died July 6, 1882.' I am not sure about the age but looked like 25yrs 1month 1day. [Probably s/h/b 75 yrs.] I have rode in this area for more than 15 years and was very surprised to find what I found. And why a grave would be where I found this one. But I guess a lot of things change in 121 years. It is located on a hilltop above Poca River Road and the Silver Street intersection. Guessing I would say it is about a half a mile walk from Poca River Road. I am going back up there this weekend to make a rub of it and take a couple of pictures."
