John owned land near Martin's Branch of the Pocatalico River (presumably) just over the Putnam County line since most family information has been recorded in Putnam County. However, his widow and her daughter, who was the widow of his son Samuel, are recorded on the 1870 Kanawha Co. census. (See notes for them: each had remarried and was in Putnam Co, WV in the 1880 census.)

Last Will and Testament of John McCormick (as recorded in Putnam Co. Wills, Vol. 1, pg 43):

Kanawha County, West Virginia
April 20, 1868

I, John McCormick of the County and State aforesaid, being feeble in body but of sound mind and disposing memory as usual- knowing the uncertainty of life- desire to make, constitute, and ordain this to be my last will and testement hereby revoking all former wills and codicils thereto, in manner and form as followeth to wit:

First, it is my will and desire that all my just debts, burial, and funeral expenses be punctually paid out of such of my personal property as I may leave at my death.

Item the first. I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife, Ann Eliza McCormick, the use of all the residue of my property, both real and personal, for and during her natural life or second marriage; in case she should again marry, she will forfeit all further use of the same.

Item the second. I give and bequeath unto my beloved sons and daughters in fee simple, after the decease or second (sic) marriage of my beloved wife, Ann Eliza aforesaid, as the case may be, jointly and equally, all the property that I have assigned to the use of my said wife. The names of my said children to which I assign the property under this clause and as follows to wit: Owen, Albert, James Madison, John Gilbert, Samuel Javins, Martha, Sidna (Sidney), and Margaret, and such others as may be born in due time to be accounted heir or heirs of my body by my beloved wife aforesaid.

In witness hereof I hereunto set my hand and affix my seal this date and year first above written.
