Thursday January 23, 1896
Death of William N. Hawkins
William N. Hawkins, aged 72, died at 3:15 yesterday morning at his home on Brown St. The immediate cause of his death was
paralysis of the brain. He was a native of Halifax county, Virginia and came to Kanawha in 1849, shortly afterward marrying Miss Sallie Oliver, at Kanawha Salines. He served three years in the Union Army, was a lieutenant and was wounded in an engagement at Pt. Pleasant. He leaves a wife and three children, Steele A. Hawkins and two daughters Mrs. N. S. Starks and Mrs. Cora Graham. The Funeral takes place today at 2 O'clock p.m. Deceased was a member of the M. E. Church for several years and was a faithful communicant. He was also a valuaqble member of the Odd Fellows, which order will conduct the funeral services.
