Husband's General Notes

From West Virginia Newspapers Obituaries 1822-1884, Vol.1, pg 103:

The West Virginia Journal
Wednesday, April 24, 1872

DAVID GOSHORN
On Friday last the announcement of the death of our fellow citizen, Mr. David Goshorn, produced an excitement
among our people scarcely ever produced by the death of a citizen.
Mr. Goshorn was one of our best friends. He was a gentleman and a good citizen, and an honest man. He was the youngest of five brothers, every one of whom is noted for his integrity. The word of either one of the Messrs. Goshorn is as good as their note.

Wife's General Notes

Obituary submitted by Rose Peterson to Kanawha County Bible Records (Internet):

MRS. GOSHORN's DEATH

Occurred (sic) Sunday Morning at Cedar Grove--- Funeral Here Yesterday. [April 1900]

The death of Mrs. Sallie L. Goshorn, who had been slowly sinking for several weeks at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Dr. C. H. Malcolm, at Cedar Grove, occurred Sunday morning at 8 o'clock. The funeral services were conducted yesterday morning at 11 o'clock at the Baptist church on Capital street, by Rev. T. C. Johnson, assisted by Rev. C. G. Christian, pastor of the Presbyterian church at Malden, after which the remains were interred in Spring Hill cemetery. Mrs. Goshorn was the widow of the late David Goshorn, who died in 1872. Her father was John McConihay, who settled here in 1805. At the time of her death, she was 69 years old. She was married July 11, 1850 and was the mother of eight children, six of whom survive her. They are J. W. Gorshorn, of Buffalo, N. Y.;
Ernest Goshorn and Alban Goshorn, and Mrs. E. J. Palmer, of this city and Louis Gorshorn and Mrs. Dr. C. H. Malcolm of Cedar Grove. Mrs. Gorshorn has been since her fourteenth year a consistent member of the Baptist church of this city, having been one of the original thirteen who formed it. She has ever been a liberal supporter
of all benevolent objects connected with her church and was loved and admired by all for her beautiful christian character and consistent life. About a year ago she selected the text, taken from the last verse of the sixth chapter of Romans, from which she requested her funeral sermon to be preached, and also the xxiii psalm to be read. The funeral services were largely attended, among those present from a distance being Mrs. Harry McConihay, of Russell, Ky., F. G. McConihay and wife of Lewiston and James McConihay and wife of East Bank. Those who acted as pall bearers were Elbert, George, William and Henry Goshorn, Harry Anderson and Dr. J. M. McConihay, all nephews of the deceaded.

Obituary from internet "Kanawha County Bible Records":

A. F. GOSHORN DIES WHILE AT MEETING

Printing and Engraving Bureau Worker is Victim of Apoplexy Stroke. May 1, 1929

A. F. Goshorn, 67, of 1305 Juniper street, an employee of the Bureau of Printing and Engraving, died of apoplexy while attending the meeting of the West Virginia Society at the Washington Club, Seventeenth and K streets, last night. Other members of the society were dancing when Mr. Goshorn, talking to a group of friends, collapsed. Dr. E. Grabiski of Emergency Hospital, responding to a call, said death was caused by apoplexy. Friends declared he had complained he was not feeling well. During election of officers Mr. Goshorn served as teller and whan dancing began, he started to talk to friends, when he was stricken. Formerly a resident of Charleston, W. Va., Mr. Goshorn came to Washington more than 40 years ago and for many years has been employed at the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. He lived with his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. William C. Bowman. Mr. Goshorn had been a member of the West Virginia Society for many years. He was also a member of the Knights of Pythias.
