May 28, 1844
This community has jost one of its honest, industrious, and useful citizens by the removal of Mr. John Ray who departed this life on the 24th. Some months since he received an injury in his spine from a fall, but continued to go about and attend to his business. The injury resulted in an entire paralyses of the parts below the arms; and after lying in a state of helplessness for several weeks, death closed the scene. As a son, a husband, a father, a neighbor, Mr. Ray's course of conduct was such as to gain the good will of all who knew him. He met death expressing a cheerful hope in the mercy of God thruogh Christ.
