Husband's General Notes

From West Virginia Newspapers Obituaries 1880-1893, Vol. 3, page 49:

The State Tribune
Wednesday November 16, 1881

Col. Wm. Dickinson died last Thursday. He was in his 82nd year. He was one of the best known men in the Valley, and had at heart it's development. He realized that his end was drawing near, and "his house was in order" when his Master called him. Every cent he owed was paid and not the smallest matter of his large business forgotten. Rev. John Brown preached the sermon, and Rev. Mr. Johnson of the Methodist Church South, conducted the burial services. Many of his friends failed to attend the funeral through inadequate notice of it.

General Notes for Child Ann Dickinson

from West Virginia Newspapers Obituaries 1822-1899 Vol.1, pg 75:

The Kanawha Republican
August 20, 1844

Departed this life on Thursday the 15th inst., Ann, the wife of John D. Lewis Esq., and daughter of Col. William Dickinson aged 26 years.
The sudden and unexpected death of this estimable lady had brought dismay and deep affliction to her bereaved family. She leaves an infant only 4 days old, besides 3 other small children to feel and mourn with the father and the husband their irreprable loss. Always generous, sincere, and openhearted, Mrs. Lewis in the last 2 years of her life, had given lustre to these virtues by adding to them the profession and the graces of a Christian. She died, as during that period she had lived, in the communion of the Catholic Church, and in the comfort of a reasonable, religious and holy hope.
