The Lowell Sun, 1 February 1958
LOWELL—Police today were investigating two hit-run accidents reported last night and in which out-of-city women drivers were involved.
First of the hit-skip incidents was reported by Raymond N. Bourgeois of 57 Ford street. He told police his right leg was struck by the right rear fender of a car at the corner of Dutton and Merrimack streets at 7:10 p.m. The woman driver, he added, sped away in the direction of Market street.
Bourgeois turned over the registration number of the vehicle, which was traced to a Springfield man.
A witness of the other accident infomed police that a woman driver's car struck a parked vehicle in front of a Lincoln square restaurant and that she failed to stop to identify herself.
Owner of the struck auto was John W. H. Joynt of 227 Hale street. The offending vehicle was traced to a Cochituate man through the license plate number which the witness jotted down.
Both owners will be summoned to the police station for interrogation. Police will try to learn the identities of the women operators.
