Aged Man Injured In Only Accident Here. Heaviest Traffic of Year During Week End and Holiday Here. Victim Taken to the Hospital.
Frank Welch, age 78 years, of 329 Main Street, this city, was painfully injured when he was struck and felled by an automobile at the corner of Main Street and Montvale Avenue last night. When Mr. Welch was about to cross the street, a Dodge sedan owned and operated by Mrs. Gladys Woodbury, Main Street, Lynnfield, going west on Montvale Avenue and about to make a right turn, struck Mr. Welch.
The victim was rushed to the Choate Memorial Hospital, where he was treated by Dr. Joseph Halpin for head and leg injuries. He was held at the hospital for observation. Mr. Welch is a retired employee of the town of Winchester, where he is well known. He moved to Woburn recently.
There were three passengers in the car with Mrs. Woodbury.
Although the week-end and holiday brought the heaviest traffic through the city during this year, so far, this accident was the only one involving personal injuries. While other communties experienced a climb in the auto accident rate, Woburn materially increased its safety record over the week-end.
