WOBURN DOGS WIN AT ANNUAL FIELD DAY

   At the seventh annual foxhound field day trial held by the Woburn Foxhunters Association at the Bennett Farm, Billerica, on Labor Day, Harry Sutherland's dog “Paul” was awarded second prize and J. E. “Nedger” Boutwell's dog “Big Boy” was awarded fifth prize. The other winners were:
   1st, Henry Wadleight, Charlestown, Mass., with “Ginger.”
   3rd, F. F. Palmer of Ayer, Mass., with “Ranger.”
   4th, Alton Gallagher, Cochituate, Mass., with “Girlie.”
   At 6 a.m., Monday, 105 hounds were cut loose and immediately scented a fox. This fox was soon forced to cover, but shortly afterwards another one was started. By ten o'clock four foxes had been forced to take to ground.
   At 11 a.m. the 400 men and women were treated to a light lunch which was greatly enjoyed.
   In addition to the five prizes, a large cup known as the Jitney Cup was donated by W. A. F. Estes of Quincy, and formerly of Woburn. The cup must be won two years before it can be held permanently.
MISS GERTRUDE E. AHERN PASSED AWAY

   Miss Gertrude E. Ahern, a former well known resident of this city, died yesterday in Somerville, Mass., after an illness of some time.
   Miss Ahern, who is the daughter of the late Edward and Mary O'Leary Ahern, has a number of friends here who will be surprised to hear of her passing.
   The funeral will be held from the Undertaking Parlors of P. J. Cox and Son, 14 Highland street, Woburn, on Wednesday morning, September 9th, 1931 at 9 o'clock, and a High Mass of Requiem will be celebrated at St. Charles Church, Woburn, at 9:30 o'clock. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Woburn.

   Mrs. Mary Girard, the well known local hairdresser, is enjoying a motor trip through the White Mountains and New York State.
   Mrs. Daniel MacIsaac, accompanied by her three daughters, Catherine, Dorothy, Ruth and her son, Daniel, have returned home after vacationing at W[illegible] Beach, Green Harbor, Mass.

SAGAMORE UNION GUESTS OF BURLINGTON SOCIETY

   Sagamore Union Christian Endeavor opened its Fall and Winter program last evening when representatives from the various societies throughout the district gathered as the guests of the Burlington Society in the Burlington Community Church.
   Early in the evening the members of the local society [illegible] Harvest supper, which was greatly enjoyed by all. The committee in charge comprised [illegible] chairman, Mrs. Melvin Dunham, Minnie Withers, Marion Bustead, Phylis Rohwedder, Harriet Pearsons, Carolyn Florian, Wilbur McIntire, Jr., Calvin Pearsons, and Marshall Skelton.
   Following the supper the members gathered for their regular congress meeting, which was opened by the President Edmund Povey of the North Street Congregational Church, Medford, James Graham of the Woburn Congregational society led the song service.
   A series of very interesting reports were given by various delegates who attended the summer conference at Northfield last August. Miss Ethel Reed of North Woburn reported on the evening services. Donald Davis of Carlisle outlined the sports program, a popular feature at Northfield and Miss Bertha Barker of the Montvale society told of the morning sessions. . . .

   The funeral of Miss Gertrude E. Ahern, formerly of this city, was held this morning at 9.00 a.m. and a High Mass of Requiem was celebrated at St. Charles' Church, this city at 9.30 a.m. Interment followed the services at St. Charles' at Calvary Cemetery, East Woburn.
   Miss Ahern is the daughter of the late Edward and Mary O'Leary Ahern, and had lived in Woburn for a number of years where she made a large circle of friends. She passed away on last Monday in Somerville, Mass. following an illness of some duration.

“ON TO DETROIT” BRIDGE AND WHIST TONIGHT

   The Ladies Auxiliary to the George A. Campbell Post, 101, of the American Legion, this city will conduct a Bridge and Whist tonight in Times Hall, this city.
   A large committee are in charge of the affair the proceeds of which will go to the “On to Detroit” fund.
   Play will start promptly at 8.30 p.m. tonight.
