DEATHS |
SLATTERYMartin Slattery, well known resident of the Sacred Heart
parish, died Saturday evening at his home, 73 South Whipple street,
after several weeks' illness. Mr. Slattery was well and favorably
known through the entire city and particularly in the Grove section,
where he was an attendant at the Sacred Heart church. He was for
many years connected with the New York, New Haven & Hartford
railroad, but in recent years had been retired. Mr. Slattery was
born in Clarecastle, County Clare, Ireland, and came to American over
50 years ago. He settled in Lowell and made this city his home. He
was a member of Lowell Aerie, 223, Fraternal Order of Eagles. He was
a member of the Holy Name society of the Sacred Heart church. Mr.
Slattery is survived by his wife, Mary Slattery; five daughters, Mrs.
Daniel M. Lynch, Mrs. John P. Frawley, Mrs. Michael F. Quinn and Miss
Mary V. Slattery, all of Lowell, and Mrs. Charles E. Mallahan, of
Cambridge; also two brothers, John and Thomas Slattery, of Lowell;
several nieces, nephews and grandchildren. |
SHINNERSThe many friends of Mrs. Bertha (Allen) Shinners will be
pained to learn of her death which occurred this morning at her home,
288 High street. Mrs. Shinner was a well known and popular young
resident of the Immaculate Conception parish all her life and her
passing will bring sincere regret to her many friends. She is
survived by her husband Arthur; and infant daughter, Elizabeth; two
sisters, Mrs. Fred Sullivan and Mrs. George Savestano; three
brothers, Thomas, Leo and George Allen; also several nieces and
nephews. |
CARRIGGMrs. Mary (Considine) Carrigg died yesterday afternoon at her home, 22 Olive street, after a long illness. She is survived by
her husband, Patrick Carrigg; five daughters, Mrs. Joseph Bingley of
Rhode Island, Mrs. Allen Lalime of Dorchester, Mrs. William O'Brien
of Roxbury, Mrs. Philip Britton of Medford, and Miss Agnes Carrigg of
this city; two sons, Joseph of Palmer and John of New York; four
brothers, John, Lawrence and James Considine of this city, and Joseph
Considine of Boston. She was a member of the Married Ladies'
sodality of the Sacred Heart church. |

SEXTONMrs. Annie L. (Ryan) Sexton, wife of John E. Sexton and mother of Rev. John E. Sexton, DD, of St. John's seminary, Brighton,
died last night at her home, 21 Garrison road, in Brookline. Mrs.
Sexton was a former resident of the Sacred Heart parish, where she
was well known and highly respected. Others who survive her are her
children, George, Leo, Etta, Stella and Veronica Sexton, all of
Brighton, and many other relatives, of Lowell. |
WALLACEMrs. Lillian Wallace, a former resident of this city but for the past year and a half residing in Dalton, died early yesterday
morning in Dalton at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lillian Logan.
Her age was 70 years. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Lillian
Logan of Dalton and Mrs. George F. Sheely of this city; also several
grandchildren. The body will be brought to the Saunders Funeral
home, 90 Westford street. |
MURPHYMrs. Catherine (Clark) Murphy, wife of John Murphy, died yesterday morning at her home, 48 Bachman street, after a long
illness. Mrs. Murphy was a well known and highly esteemed resident
of St. Michael's parish, having resided for a period of 45 years in
the parish. She was a devout wife and mother and her interest was
ever centered in her home and family. Besides her husband, she is
survived by three daughters, Mrs. John Lynch of Chicago, Ill., Miss
Alice Murphy of this city and Mrs. Page Enloe of Roanoke, Ala.; five
sons, Philip T. of Newark, N.J., Albert J. of Manchester, N.H.,
Christopher, Matthew F. and Edward B. Murphy of this city; two
sisters, Mrs. John Cassidy of this city and Mrs. Mary Jane Moran in
Ireland; three brothers, Peter Clark of East Chelmsford, and Philip
and Matthew Clark in Ireland,and 15 grandchildren. |
AWARDED $8,400 For Injuries |
BOSTON, May 25 (AP)Dr. Hollis Godfrey of Boston today was awarded $8400 by a Suffolk county jury in a suite against the J. R. Whipple
corporation for injuries received in an elevator accident in what
was formerly Young's hotel. The accident occurred in February,
1926. The hotel was operated by the corporation.
In the elevator when Dr. Godfrey was injured were former Mayor
Malcolm Nichols and former Police Commissioner Herbert A. Wilson. |
