The Arlington Advocate, 21 December 1928

A sports writer of the Boston Globe gave some items of interest relating to athletic achievements of the Lane family last week in that newspaper, but he forgot that there are more than three members of that well known family who have been captains of High School teams. The article is, however, of interest, so we reprint it here as follows:—
"The Lane family in Arlington has been active in athletics in recent years. Miss Katherine Lane captained the field hockey team which won the Southern Division title of the Greater Boston Boston Interscholastic Hockey League, the past Fall. Her sister, Helen, captained the team a few years ago, and was considered one of the finest field hockey players that has been turned out in Arlington.

"Katherine proved her worth in the seven games played during the season. While Arlington was beaten, 3 to 2, by Winchester High, the Northern Division winner, at Waltham High field, the Arlington 'lassies' gave a fine all-around account of themselves.

"Arthur Lane, who was a star hockey and football player at Arlington High until last June when he graduated, is a brother of the two field hockey stars. He entered Exeter Academy last Fall and was regarded as one of the foremost tackles that has graced the Exeter gridiron since the days of 'Cupid' Blake, who later starred and captained Yale. Arthur was chosen for a place on the Globe's all-preparatory school football team, published Monday morning."

But why stop there? John Lane captained the High School basketball team that won a championship; Eddie Lane captained the High School football team, while Miss Mary Lane was captain of the Girls' Field Hockey team during her senior year in the High School. Arthur Lane is now Captain of Exeter football team and he will have a forward position on the ice hockey team. While in Arlington High he played defense.

The above are children of Mr. and Mrs. John J. Lane of 13 Winter street.
