The funeral of Mrs. Kate (McCarthy) Haley took place this morning from her home, 145 Cross street., at 9 o'clock and was largely attended by relatives and friends. The funeral cortege, headed by two automobiles filled with floral tributes, wended its way to St. Patrick's church where a solemn high mass of requiem was celebrated at 10 o'clock by Rev. John J. McGarry, Rev. Fr. John Powers, deacon, and Rev. Joseph Curtin, sub-deacon. Seated within the sanctuary were Rev. Charles A. Barry, O.M.I. and Rev. Francis Curry, O.M.I. The choir sang the Gregorian mass. Miss Frances Tighe and Mr. Andrew McCarthy and Daniel S. O'Brien sustaining the solos. Mr. Michael Johnson presided at the organ. There were many floral tributes and spiritual bouquets. In attendance at the funeral were the Sisters of St. Patrick's Home, Chief Edward F. Saunders and District Chief Daniel Crowley and a large delegation from the Lowell Fire department, delegation from the Broadway Social and Athletic club and friends and relatives from East Boston, Lynn, Woburn and Lawrence, Mass. The ushers were Stephen Griffin, Thomas Cunningham, Jr., and Patrick Grady. The bearers were William Tighe, Alvin Joy, Andrew Haley, Peter Sheehan, Leo Tansey and Thomas Cunningham. Interment was in St. Patrick's cemetery, Rev. Joseph Curtin read the committal prayers. The funeral arrangements were in charge of Mr. George H. McDermott. Undertaker Peter H. Savage's Son in charge of interment.
The funeral of John Brown took place from his home, 433 Wilson street, North Billerica Tuesday afternoon. Prayers were said at the home and services held at St. Anne's Episcopal church at 3 o'clock which were largely attended, Rev. Thomas P. Gale, rector, officiating. St. Anne's church choir sang appropriate selections. Shawsheen lodge, I.O.O.F., and Asa Pollard lodge, I.O.O.F., M.U., were represented by delegations, Thomas Talbot lodge, A. F. and A. M., were represented by Everett S. Bull, W.M., Rev. William L. Walsh, Rev. J. Harold Dale, Rev. Chester Armstrong, J.H. Roome, James W. Ritchie, Alexander Allen, Norris Millbury, Arthur S. Cook, W. H. Sexton, Pearl Kinney and Coburn S. Smith. The flowers were numerous. The bearers were Henry Brown, Harold Brown, Frederick G. Brown, J. Arthur Brown, J. Thomas Brown and Charles Fairbrother, Jr. Burial was in the family lot in the Edson cemetery where the service was read by Rev. Mr. Gale. The Masonic burial service was read by the above delegation of Masons. The funeral was under the direction of Undertaker W. Herbert Blake.
