The Arlington Advocate, 22 July 1898

Yesterday afternoon a thundershower burst with unusual suddenness, even for dog days, on the Mystic Valley section during which the rain fell in torrents and the lightning was of rare brilliancy. It did not continue long enough to cause bad washing of streets as is so often the case, but a fatal accident occurred which carries the deepest sorrow to a large family. The workmen engaged on the new school building on Park Avenue, Arlington Heights, sought shelter from the pouring rain in the cellar of the old school building, as it is in use by the contractor as a workshop. They had not been there a great while when the electric fluid struck the cupola of the building and passing into the cellar prostrated the group of workmen assembled there.

John N. Our, of Weymouth, foreman of the work, received fatal injuries, expiring almost immediately, and Bryan Dolan, of Dudley Street Court, and Robert Jackson, of Arlington Heights, were rendered unconscious but at length recovered without medical aid. The body of Mr. Our was taken to the rooms of J.H. Hartwell and Son, where medical examiner Swan viewed the body and gave the necessary burial permit, after which the remains were turned over to the family. Mr. Our has a family consisting of a wife and six children, all but one of whom, a son who worked with him and who was present when the sad affair occurred were dependent upon him for support. He was highly thought of by his employer and enjoyed the respect of the men over whom he was placed on the work.
