The News of Woburn, 16 October 1897

Michael Murphy, a war veteran and a long-time resident of Woburn, died at his home No. 27 Park st., Sunday, Oct. 10, aged 79 years, 10 months, 11 days. He was born in County Cork, Ireland, Nov 29, 1817. Mr. Murphy was a currier by trade, but for years had been unable to perform manual labor. In the war of the rebellion he enlisted in the Woburn Union Guard—F. Co., Mass. 22d regiment—and served faithfully throughout the regiment's term.

A brother [Cornelius Murphy for many years doorkeeper at the Boston Theatre], two daughters [Miss Ellen Murphy and Mrs. Stephen J. Foss of Woburn], and one son [Patrick H. Murphy, formerly of Kenney & Murphy] survive him. Mr. Murphy was the father of Mrs. Cornelius Corcoran and Mrs. Charles F. McDermott, both deceased. The funeral was from St. Charles church, Tuesday morning. The national colors were at half staff during the day.
