The Arlington Advocate, 19 April 1895

In our notice of the police appointments for 1895 we stated that officer Garret Cody had been transferred from his old beat and assigned to the lower section of the town. That he is attending to his duty successfully was shown in the batch sent to court the first of the week on his complaint.
Being assured that one of the houses on Mr. Rawson's lower farm on Warren street was being used as a resort for illegal practices, he kept watch and last Sunday was rewarded by catching a lot of young men in the act of gaming on the Lord's day, and succeeded in capturing Patrick and Michael Canty, John Welch, Thomas Keeny, Dennis Leary, William Kelley, John DeCoursey, Decklin Flynn, William H. Waugh and Daniel Mehan.
All but Welch pleaded guilty and it figured but a short time for officer Cody on the witness stand to convince the judge of his guilt and like all the rest he paid a fine of three dollars.
