Sir Robert was Sheriff of Lancashire, Nottingham and Derby during the reign of Henry II.
On 20 July 1207 King John ordered the return of the dower of "Matilda his daughter who was the wife of Theobald Walter to Robert le Vavasour". On 1 Oct. 1207 the king then ordered her dower to be paid to "Fulk Fitz Warin and Matilda", restoring to them what "had previously granted to Robert le Vavasour".(1) Robert paid a fine of �1200 and two palfreys so that Maud could marry Fulk.
