The marriage contract was done by Notaire Antoine Gaultier in Paris on 21 Mar. 1646. Pierre, age about 25, was the son of Pierre Petit and Catherine, also about age 25, was the daughter of Bonaventure Desnaguetz, a Royal Engineer in the French artillery during the reign of King Louis XIII, and Anne des Gautiers. The Royal Engineers were in charge of building and maintaining fortifications and conducting sieges. Pierre lived on Rue des Vieilles-Garnisons, Saint-Jean-en-Greve. It's interesting to note that at the time there was another Pierre Petit in Paris who was an Ingenieur du Roi and in 1649 became Intendant General des Fortifications and was commissioned by Cardinal Richelieu. He also wrote a book on comets which he dedicated to King Louis XIV and was a foreign fellow of the Royal Society in 1667.
Pierre left for New France that summer and his wife followed the next year. The family evidently returned to France as their third child was born in Saint-Germain-l'Auxerrois. The family then returned to Quebec.
