Andrew HALEY of Kittery, Maine

HALEY

1. ANDREW-

m. DEBORAH (2) WILSON
Adm. 2 Dec. 1697

Andrew was a fisherman at the Isles of Shoals by 1653 along with the three Kelly brothers and was called the "King of the Shoals". He settled on Smuttynose Island which was later called Haleys Island and his descendants lived there for the next 250 years. In 1662 with Thomas Donnell he bought the Edward Johnson homestead in York from John Pearce and sold his half in 1684 when he was living at Spruce Creek. In 1667 Mr. Robert Elliot paid his fine for swearing and blasphemy. Andrew had been swearing blasphemously many desperate oaths, for which he was reproved by Robert Mendum who was one of the grand jury. Andrew swore "again, very desperately, several oaths and said he would put the said Mendum in his pocket."

Gowen Wilson gave Andrew 11 acres of his lot on Brians Point on Spruce Creek as a marriage dowry 2 June 1684. Andrew had received a grant from the town of Kittery in 1673.

Map of Kittery- Lower Parish- from Stackpole's Old Kittery And Her Families

The administration of Andrew's estate was granted to Deborah and to their son Andrew. William Pepperell and Joseph Weeks of Kittery were sureties. The inventory of Andrew's estate came to 107/3/11.(1)
