1. THOMAS- b.c.1674 Bourne states that Thomas came from Donathkeedy (?Donaghadee, Co. Down) with eleven children and landed in Saco in 1720.(1) Folsom states that Thomas emigrated from Colraine, Co. Londonderry.(2) It is noted that Judge Bourne's first wife was Mary Gilpatrick who was a great grand-daughter to Thomas. Therefore, Bourne may have had access to better information than Folsom. It is interesting to note that on 1 May 1616 Richard, James and John Killpatrick, all Scotsmen, leased a tract of land from Peter Benson in the barony of Shragmiler, Co. Donegal.(3) Perhaps Thomas may be related to these early immigrants to Ulster. Thomas was an inhabitant of Wells in 1726(4) and lived there until 1729 when he moved to Biddeford as we find him a member of the church there.(5) In 1739 was recorded: "the request of John Treworgy, Thomas Killpatrick, Matthew Patten, Thomas Thompson, William Killpatrick, to set off those who call themselves Presbyterians from any further support to Rev. Mr. Willard"(6) This the town refused to grant and we find Joseph Killpatrick's name attached to a vote not to increase Rev. Willard's salary.(7) On 6 Dec. 1734 Thomas purchased from John Smith of Biddeford, husbandman for 30, 30 acres in Biddeford bounded by Ebenezer Batts, which was granted to Smith on 9 May 1728. The deed was signed by John and Sarah Smith and witnessed by John Stackpole, John Stackpole Jr. and Andrew Stackpole.(8) Thomas purchased from his son William Gilpatrick of Biddeford, weaver, on 8 Dec. 1737 for 35, 30 acres of land in Biddeford which was granted to James Davis, cordwainer on 9 May 1728 and bounded by Nathaniel Tarbox, deceased and New Town Brook. The deed was signed by William and Martha Gillpatrick and witnessed by John Gray and Samuel Willard.(9) William Pepperrell of Kittery, Esq. sold to Thomas Gillpatrick of Biddeford, blacksmith on 17 Oct. 1740 for 130/10, 13 acres of land and a barn in Biddeford which was part of the estate of John Treworgy of Biddeford, Gent., on the Saco River bounded by William Dyers and Henry Pendexter. The deed was witnessed by Daniel Jackson and Jeremiah Moulton.(10) On 28 Dec. 1741 Samuel Cole of Biddeford, millwright sold to Thomas Gillpatrick of Biddeford, husbandman, for 78/2/6 "one fourth part of a Certain Saw Mill to gether with the one fourth part of the going geers or Iron work... also the one fourth part of the Land & falls Whereon the said saw mill Standeth... the Stage... the Landing Place for loggs & ways for halling loggs to the said Mill & halling boards... on Sacow River". The deed was witnessed by John Gray and John Daves.(11) Thomas signed a petition 1 Jan. 1761 for Biddeford to receive shire-town status.(12) "In the Name of God amen. This sixth Day of January Anno Domini 1762 I Thomas Gilpatrick of Biddeford In the County of York and Province of the Massachussetts Bay in New England yeoman... do make and ordain this my last will and testament...
