    3II. EDWARD (EDWARD 1, EDWARD 2)

    b.c.1587
    m. 3 June 1614 Hingham, Norfolk, MARY CLARK (d. 22 June 1681 Hingham, MA), d. of John and Elizabeth Clark of Hingham, Norfolk
    d. 10 Apr. 1655 Exeter, NH

In a deposition in 1637 Edward stated that he was 50 years old and referred to his father Edward.

Edward moved from Hingham, Norfolk to Hingham, MA in 1638 with his wife, five children and three servants on the ship "Diligent" sailing from Gravesend on 26 Apr. and arriving in Boston on 10 Aug. Also on the voyage was their son-in-law John Folsom and his two servants. Edward was granted land in Seekonk, now Rehoboth in 1641 which he sold in 1650 to Joseph Peck Jr. His estate was worth £300 in 1643. The family then moved to Ipswich were he was a selectman in 1649. On 18 Sept. 1648 Edward Gilman (his son) sold to his father, Edward, the barn that was given to him by his father-in-law Richard Smith. On 8 May 1652 Edward bought land on the Lamprill River from Thomas Briggs and on 10 May 1652 "Mr. Edward Gilman and his son Moses with Edward Colcord, upon their request to become townsmen, were accepted to become inhabitants and to come and live amongst us". On 8 July 1652 there was granted "unto Mr. Edward Gilman, Sr, John Legat, John Gilman and Moses Gilman, amongst them in general, 200 acres of swamp towards Mr. Stonyan's meadow lying about a brook that way, in distance two or three miles from town". On 14 Oct. 1652 he was living in Ipswich and sold his house and land in "Bachelor's Rowe" in Hingham which he had purchased from Nicholas Jacob along with other lands in Hingham to his son-in-law Daniel Cushing. On 14 Jan. 1655 Edward deeded his entire estate to his wife Mary except for £30 each to his sons John and Moses. Mary administered his estate on 10 Apr. 1655 and his sons and sons-in-law agreed to the distribution according to his previous deed. Mary then moved back to Hingham to live with family and died there in 1681.
