Beauly Priory

In 1230 John founded a priory of the order of Vallis Caulium or Val Des Choux in Beauly, Ross. The tower and fort of Lovat built in 1230 on the east bank of the River Beauly was the seat of the Bissets. John was imprisoned in 1245 in the castle of Inverness for being involved with the murder of the Earl of Athol and for showing allegiance to the Lord of the Isles. In 1258 John gave an annuity to the Bishop of Moray.
