Churches and Religious History
The Congregational church was gathered Aug. 31, 1786; First Parish and Society were organized in 1838. The first minister was Rev. Moses Hallock, ordained 1792, d. 1837. Early deacons included Lt. John Packard (c. 1792, d. 1807); Capt. James Richards (c. 1792, d. 1842); and Joseph Beals (c. 1803, d. 1813).
