Eliza's grandfather's name was Robert Cadby and her grandmother's maiden name
was Bailey. They had five children that Eliza knew of - Charles, Mary
Treasure, Joseph B , Annie Randal, and Stephan. Mary Treasure eventually
settled in Cincinatti, Ohio in the US. Annie Randal had no children. "Uncle
Charles" owned a large Piano Forte manufactory at West Kensington, London."
Eliza states that Charles has been dead over 50/60 years (typeover in
statement). Charles house address was Lansann House, London. Joseph B.
Cadby had five children and his house address was Regent Park near St. George
Square, London.
There is a civil war record for a
Private Chesley Cadby in the 140th Indiana Infantry Regiment. The 140th was
part of the Army of the .. James and saw service at Fort Fisher, North Carolina,
in 1865. The 140th had 111 enlisted members die of disease during the war,
but only 2 killed. If this is the same Chesley, he likely died of disease
during the Fort Fisher campaign.
I also have a copy of a page torn out of some sort of travel book describing
Cadby's Store, located on State Road 7, south east corner of the public
square, in Vernon, Indiana.

Bush's mother died when she was 4 and was raised by her grandparents. Her
grandfather's name was John Bush, a Baptist preacher. Her father's name was
either Mathew or Luke - "some bible name". Eliza describes Mary Ann Bush's
father as "a great steamboat man - just lived on the river", and last heard

Mary A. Cadby, wife of Stephen Cadby, died 7 May 1882 of Cancer of the Stomach (newspaper item).
Stephen Cadby married Mary Ann Bush on 30 Dec 1838 in Jennings County.
Stephen Cadby was appointed guardian of John Kurtz, a minor child of George Kurtz, deceased,
on 14 Feb 1848 (source: Jennings County Probate Book).
John Kurtz shows up in the 1850 census in Stephen Cadby's household as an 18 year-old farmhand.
Stephen Cadby filed a petition for partition of real estate on 13 Aug 1845.
According to the Jennings County probate book, Stephen Cadby filed vs John Farquarson concerning
land purchased by Stephen Cadby and Alexander Farquarson in September 1837 from Robert and
Nancy Bush and from Thomas and Nancy Earl. Shortly after this land was purchased, Alexander Farquarson
died, leaving John Farquarson as his heir-at-law. John Farquarson was a non-resident of Indiana.
Stephen Cadby's petition was to set off his part of these two tracts. The court appointed John Alloway,
John Bush, and Martin Staley to make the partition. (Incidently, John Bush and Robert Bush are probably
uncles of Mary Ann Bush, Stephen Cadby's wife). Stephen Cadby owned 200 acres of land near Queensville,
Jennings County, Indiana, and was listed as a "stock raiser" in the Atlas of Indiana, Directory of Jennings
County from 1870-1871. Stephen Cadby, Mary Ann Cadby, and their son Chesley Cadby share a single
headstone in Cave Springs Cemetery, although it is doubtful that Chesley is actually buried at this location.
Eliza C. Hutchings, daughter of Stephen Cadby, was born 20 May 1850 and died 24 Feb 1935.
She's buried in Scipio Cemetery in Jennings County, Indiana. Her husband, Daniel Hutchings is also
buried there - he was born in 1849 and died in 1911. Eliza's children are: Charles F., born 6 Oct 1874
and died 14 Jan 1875, buried in Cave Springs Cemetery; Willie, born about 1876; Grace Hutchings,
born about 1878 and who married Charles T. Green on 12 Jan 1896.James Treasure, husband of Mary
Cadby, was granted US citizenship in Jennings County Indiana on 9 May 1843. According to his petition,
he was from Frome, Somersetshire, England and was 41 years old. He came into the US at Lewistown,
New York, in December 1837. He resided in Buffalo, New York, for 10 months before he came to
Jennings County in 1838. I believe he and Mary Cadby Treasure were present at Stephen Cadby's
wedding to Mary Ann Bush. James Treasure shows up in the 1840 census for Jennings County, Indiana
(the 1840 census listed only the head of household by name). Stephen Cadby was also granted US
citizenship about this time, but I could not find the record. Incidently, James and Mary Treasure show up
in the 1850 census for Cincinatti, Ohio, with the following children: Elisa, Mary A., Emma, Edwin, James,
and Mary E.
Edwin Treasure, son of James Treasure and Mary Cadby Treasure was born 2 Nov 1840 in Scipio,
Jennings County, Indiana. He married Katharine ("Kate") Bryant on 1 Jan 1866 in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Edwin and Kate had no children. Edwin and Kate are listed in the 1880 census as residents of St. Paul,
Minnesota. Also living with them is Nettie Treasure, Edwin's niece (probably James Treasure's
(Edwin's brother) daughter - I believe James Treasure died in 1876). Edwin's occupation is listed as
"shoemaker". Also part of Edwin's household is John H. Hovelsrud, another shoemaker from Norway.
In the 1890-1891 St. Paul city directory, Edwin Treasure is listed as President of the Standard Shoe
Company at 423 Wabasha street, and John H. Hovelsrud is listed as manager of the same company.
Edwin Treasure is also listed as Vice President of The Standard Investment Company of St. Paul,
Minnesota, 204 Pioneer Press Building. James Treasure, Edwin's brother, was born 2 June 1843,
also in Scipio, Jennings County, Indiana and may have died in March, 1876. Mary Elizabeth Treasure,
daughter of James Treasure and Mary Cadby Treasure, was born 6 May 1847. She married Oliver P.
Conklin on 27 Nov 1866 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Mary Elizabeth had three children that I know of: Mary,
born 11 Sep 1867; Oliver Frank, born 29 Aug 1869; and Kate, born about 1872. The following is not
confirmed: Kate Conklin married Edward Hitchens and had a daughter, Margaret. Margaret Hitchens
married a man named Gilbert Jean DeBuck in 1922. Margaret Hitchens DeBuck was born 2 Nov 1901
and died in May 1975 at Pacitas, New Mexico (source: Social Security death index).

He served in both the army and navy , including service in the West Indies .
He was in the 90th Regiment of infantry achieving rank of sergeant.
At some point in USA, he deserted from the army,and the family in
England never heard from him again. (James' letter,1853)
He must have left England before 1810 , because he didn't know his youngest
brother (James) very well.Sometime after 1821 , John left his family and was
never seen again . He may have drowned on a trip back to England.
A letter to John from George was returned to George in 1830.
John W. was apparently born 22 Nov 1786 .
He married Minerva Phelps ADAMS (B 1799 , Vermont) in the USA.

of John Nelson CADBY at Alma Center, Wisc. Deceased was born at
Canandaigua on Dec 10, 1818, and made his home in this section until
1842, when he moved to a farm in Wisconsin. Previous to last fall, he
resided for a time with his daughter, Mrs. A. L. DEWEY, at Clifton Springs.

Eliza's grandfather's name was Robert Cadby and her grandmother's maiden name
was Bailey. They had five children that Eliza knew of - Charles, Mary
Treasure, Joseph B , Annie Randal, and Stephan. Mary Treasure eventually
settled in Cincinatti, Ohio in the US. Annie Randal had no children. "Uncle
Charles" owned a large Piano Forte manufactory at West Kensington, London."
Eliza states that Charles has been dead over 50/60 years (typeover in
statement). Charles house address was Lansann House, London. Joseph B.
Cadby had five children and his house address was Regent Park near St. George
Square, London.
There is a civil war record for a
Private Chesley Cadby in the 140th Indiana Infantry Regiment. The 140th was
part of the Army of the .. James and saw service at Fort Fisher, North Carolina,
in 1865. The 140th had 111 enlisted members die of disease during the war,
but only 2 killed. If this is the same Chesley, he likely died of disease
during the Fort Fisher campaign.
I also have a copy of a page torn out of some sort of travel book describing
Cadby's Store, located on State Road 7, south east corner of the public
square, in Vernon, Indiana.

either Mathew or Luke - "some bible name". Eliza describes Mary Ann Bush's
father as "a great steamboat man - just lived on the river", and last heard

Stephen Cadby married Mary Ann Bush on 30 Dec 1838 in Jennings County.
Stephen Cadby was appointed guardian of John Kurtz, a minor child of George Kurtz, deceased,
on 14 Feb 1848 (source: Jennings County Probate Book).
John Kurtz shows up in the 1850 census in Stephen Cadby's household as an 18 year-old farmhand.
Stephen Cadby filed a petition for partition of real estate on 13 Aug 1845.
According to the Jennings County probate book, Stephen Cadby filed vs John Farquarson concerning
land purchased by Stephen Cadby and Alexander Farquarson in September 1837 from Robert and
Nancy Bush and from Thomas and Nancy Earl. Shortly after this land was purchased, Alexander Farquarson
died, leaving John Farquarson as his heir-at-law. John Farquarson was a non-resident of Indiana.
Stephen Cadby's petition was to set off his part of these two tracts. The court appointed John Alloway,
John Bush, and Martin Staley to make the partition. (Incidently, John Bush and Robert Bush are probably
uncles of Mary Ann Bush, Stephen Cadby's wife). Stephen Cadby owned 200 acres of land near Queensville,
Jennings County, Indiana, and was listed as a "stock raiser" in the Atlas of Indiana, Directory of Jennings
County from 1870-1871. Stephen Cadby, Mary Ann Cadby, and their son Chesley Cadby share a single
headstone in Cave Springs Cemetery, although it is doubtful that Chesley is actually buried at this location.
Eliza C. Hutchings, daughter of Stephen Cadby, was born 20 May 1850 and died 24 Feb 1935.
She's buried in Scipio Cemetery in Jennings County, Indiana. Her husband, Daniel Hutchings is also
buried there - he was born in 1849 and died in 1911. Eliza's children are: Charles F., born 6 Oct 1874
and died 14 Jan 1875, buried in Cave Springs Cemetery; Willie, born about 1876; Grace Hutchings,
born about 1878 and who married Charles T. Green on 12 Jan 1896.James Treasure, husband of Mary
Cadby, was granted US citizenship in Jennings County Indiana on 9 May 1843. According to his petition,
he was from Frome, Somersetshire, England and was 41 years old. He came into the US at Lewistown,
New York, in December 1837. He resided in Buffalo, New York, for 10 months before he came to
Jennings County in 1838. I believe he and Mary Cadby Treasure were present at Stephen Cadby's
wedding to Mary Ann Bush. James Treasure shows up in the 1840 census for Jennings County, Indiana
(the 1840 census listed only the head of household by name). Stephen Cadby was also granted US
citizenship about this time, but I could not find the record. Incidently, James and Mary Treasure show up
in the 1850 census for Cincinatti, Ohio, with the following children: Elisa, Mary A., Emma, Edwin, James,
and Mary E.
Edwin Treasure, son of James Treasure and Mary Cadby Treasure was born 2 Nov 1840 in Scipio,
Jennings County, Indiana. He married Katharine ("Kate") Bryant on 1 Jan 1866 in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Edwin and Kate had no children. Edwin and Kate are listed in the 1880 census as residents of St. Paul,
Minnesota. Also living with them is Nettie Treasure, Edwin's niece (probably James Treasure's
(Edwin's brother) daughter - I believe James Treasure died in 1876). Edwin's occupation is listed as
"shoemaker". Also part of Edwin's household is John H. Hovelsrud, another shoemaker from Norway.
In the 1890-1891 St. Paul city directory, Edwin Treasure is listed as President of the Standard Shoe
Company at 423 Wabasha street, and John H. Hovelsrud is listed as manager of the same company.
Edwin Treasure is also listed as Vice President of The Standard Investment Company of St. Paul,
Minnesota, 204 Pioneer Press Building. James Treasure, Edwin's brother, was born 2 June 1843,
also in Scipio, Jennings County, Indiana and may have died in March, 1876. Mary Elizabeth Treasure,
daughter of James Treasure and Mary Cadby Treasure, was born 6 May 1847. She married Oliver P.
Conklin on 27 Nov 1866 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Mary Elizabeth had three children that I know of: Mary,
born 11 Sep 1867; Oliver Frank, born 29 Aug 1869; and Kate, born about 1872. The following is not
confirmed: Kate Conklin married Edward Hitchens and had a daughter, Margaret. Margaret Hitchens
married a man named Gilbert Jean DeBuck in 1922. Margaret Hitchens DeBuck was born 2 Nov 1901
and died in May 1975 at Pacitas, New Mexico (source: Social Security death index).

Wil 355 this time was "Connandaigna ,County of Ontario,State of New York .
He served in both the army and navy , including service in the West Indies .
He was in the 90th Regiment of infantry achieving rank of sergeant.
At some point in USA, he deserted from the army,and the family in
England never heard from him again. (James' letter,1853)
He must have left England before 1810 , because he didn't know his youngest
brother (James) very well.Sometime after 1821 , John left his family and was
never seen again . He may have drowned on a trip back to England.
A letter to John from George was returned to George in 1830.
John W. was apparently born 22 Nov 1786 .
He married Minerva Phelps ADAMS (B 1799 , Vermont) in the USA.

of Clifton Springs, aged 96 years. News has been received of the death
of John Nelson CADBY at Alma Center, Wisc. Deceased was born at
Canandaigua on Dec 10, 1818, and made his home in this section until
1842, when he moved to a farm in Wisconsin. Previous to last fall, he
resided for a time with his daughter, Mrs. A. L. DEWEY, at Clifton Springs.
Sarah Sabrina married Squire S. CASE on 26 Jul 1838 at St Paul's Episcopal,
