Newspaper Clippings from the Essex Echo

The Essex Echo was published every Friday from 1887 to about 1918. The first publisher of the Essex Echo was Albert Vittum. I. M. Marshall of Manchester was the publisher from before 1894 to after 1910. During that period, Lucy C. Burnham was general manager. The paper was printed by the same company that published the Manchester Cricket.

The publication office was B. F. Raymond's Drug Store (1887-1894), and later, Leighton E. Perkins'store (1903-1910). The 8 page newspaper (16 pages in 1887) had a subscription price of $1.00 per year (1887-1910). Only a couple columns covered Essex news. Those columns, which are presented here for selected issues, were scanned and indexed by Kurt Wilhelm. There are clippings from 47 issues issued between 1887 and 1910.

The volume and page number for each issue is shown here on the first page. Note that in a couple instances (volumes 18 and 21) the volume number was repeated in succeeding years.

Microfilm of the Essex Echo for 1887-1889 and 1895-1918 are available at the Boston Public Library (OCLC catalog number E795).8
