Collingwood, Ontario, population 17,000 is located in Simcoe County on the southern shore of Georgian Bay. Named for Lord Cuthbert, Collingwood, Lord Nelson's second in command, it was incorporated in 1858, shortly after the arrival of the railway. From 1883 until 1986 shipbuilding was one of the town's main industries. Today, the focus is on the production of ethanol, and the provision of services for the resort trade, As the nearby community of Blue Mountain is home to some of Ontario's most popular skiing areas.
