Cobourg, Ontario, population 19,000, is located in Northumberland County, east of Toronto. The settlement was founded by United Empire Loyalists in 1798. It was given its current name in 1801 in recognition of the marriage of Princess Charlotte Augusta of Wales to Prince Leopold of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld. Today the largest industry in Cobourg is food processing. Sir Sanford Fleming, the inventor of time zones was a resident of Cobourg.
