Bosanquet, Ontario, Canada

Bosanquet is a former township - an administrative subdivision - of the county of Lambton, Ontario. It is located on the south eastern shore of Lake Huron, and was named for Charles Bosanquet, first chairman of the Canada Company. Early in the 19th century, settlers cleared the forests to create farmland, and agriculture became the major industry. During the 1990s the township had its status changed to that of a town. Later it amalgamated with nearby towns to become the Municipality of Lambton Shores. A popular tourist destination on the shore of Lake Huron is Kettle Point, named for the crystalline structures having the shape of upside down cooking kettles, that are found in the black shale outcrops in the area. Once collected by visitors, these concretions are now protected.
