Stonewall, Manitoba, Canada

Stonewall, Manitoba, population 4400, is located 25 km north of Winnipeg. It was named for Samuel Jacob "Stonewall" Jackson, a member of a survey crew who acquired the land in 1875. Stonewall, which was established in 1878, is known for its limestone quarries, which began in the early 1880's, producing quicklime. The now abandoned quarry has become a park, featuring an interpretive centre museum, until it burned down in 2007, and limestone kilns.
