Argyle, Manitoba, Canada

Argyle, Manitoba is a small hamlet 30 km from Winnipeg. The first settlers, who arrived during the late 1870's, were from Argylleshire, Scotland, and named the district for their former home. Many of these early settlers were homesteaders who had been granted 160 acres of free land by the federal government. The long term existence of the community was guaranteed by the arrival of the Canadian Northern Railway in 1912. Farming remains the major industry in the area today.
