Brandon, Manitoba, Canada

Brandon, Manitoba, population 51,600, is the second largest city in the province. Located in the south western part of Manitoba on the bank of the Assiniboine River, 200 km west of Winnipeg, was first settled in late 1870's, and eventually became a major junction on the Canadian Pacific Railway. The city was incorporated in 1882, and named for a Hudson's Bay Trading post, which itself, had been named for Douglas, Duke of Brandon. Known as the "Wheat City", Brandon's major industries are related to agriculture, and include fertilizer and hog processing plants.
