Port Moody, British Columbia, population 30,000, is a city in Metro Vancouver. Occupying traditional territory of the Coast Salish First Nation, it is situated 26 km to the east of Vancouver, on the south shore of Burrard Inlet. During the Cariboo gold rush the city was established by the Royal Engineers, commanded by Col Richard Moody, after whom it was named. Port Moody was chosen as the original terminus of the Canadian Pacific Railway, where the first train arrived in 1886.
