West Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

West Vancouver, population 45,000, a city in Metro Vancouver, is situated on the north shore of Burrard Inlet, at the base of Mt. Holyburn. The area was visited by Captain George Vancouver in 1792, and a British Naval Reserve was established in 1859. Growth was fairly slow until the completion of the Lion's Gate Bridge, connecting West Vancouver and Vancouver, in 1938. Today, West Vancouver is primarily a residential area as manufacturing concerns are prohibited by law.
