High River, Alberta, Canada

High River, Alberta, population 10,700, located 37 km south of Calgary, was founded in 1881 as a ranching settlement. The name was derived from that of the Highwood River, which flows through the town, and frequently floods during the spring. High River provides a major service centre for the surrounding agricultural district.
