Stoke D'Abernon, Surrey, England

There was a church on the manor at Stoke D'Abernon at the time of the Doomesday Survey. It is a small village 3 miles northwest of Leatherhead and a mile and a half east of Church Cobham. The River Mole separates the parish from the Bookhams (Great and Little), and is a short distance from Cobham. Cobham and Stoke D'Abernon Railway Station opened in 1885. The church of St Mary dates from c 1190 and is described in 'The Buildings of England, Surrey' as "possibly the classic example of bad restoration".
