It is separated from its twin city in Victoria, Wodanga by the Murray River. Together the two cities form an urban area with a population of more than 80,000. It is approximately 460 kilometres (290 miles) from the state capital Sydney and 260 kilometres (161 miles) from Victoria's capital Melbourne.
