Ascot, Berkshire, England

A small town between Bracknell and Virginia Water, in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, Ascot is famous for its racecourse. 'Ascot horse racing was started by Queen Anne in 1711, but it was only taken up seriously, and indeed revived, by the Duke of Cumberland, who kept his stud at Cumberland Lodge in Windsor Great Park. At the end of the c18 the races were already attended regularly by King and Queen and Prince of Wales.'*
