This took place after Banns were called. He was a 24 year old Warehouseman of 127 White House Street. She was a 27 year old spinster of 46 Ropery Street. Their witnesses were John George Bygrave and Harriett Jane Rudd.3,4 Edith Mary Ager married Robert John Gaskin on 3 February 1913 at St Paul, Bow Common, London, England; and their marriage, which took place after Banns were read, was recorded at Mile End Registration district in the March quarter 1913.      Isaac Maurice Collat was born on 4 November 1857 at Boston, Massachusetts, United States of America; and his parents were Mirriam Jacobs and Maurice Collat.5,6,7,4 He was granted Letters Patent No. 232,335 for an 'Ink Fountain', stating he had 'invented a new and useful Ink Fountain for Printing Presses' on 21 September 1880.8 He married Elizabeth Jones, daughter of William Jones and Esther Harris, on 9 March 1893 at Suffolk, Boston, Massachusetts, United States of America; and their marriage was recorded as Elizabeth S Jones, daughter of William B and Esther Jones and Isaac Collat, son of Maurice and Mary Collat.9,10 Isaac Maurice Collat appeared on the census of 1910 at Carmen Street, Suffolk, Boston, Massachusetts, United States of America, as Head, married, age 52, birthplace Massachusetts, parents born in Germany, and he was a Newspaper Compositor.      William George Levander was born in 1875 at Islington, London, England; and his birth was registered in the March quarter 1876 at Islington Registration district.4,3 He was the son of Frederick William Levander F.R.A.S. and Susannah Elizabeth Oakes.2,3 William George Levander appeared on the census of 3 April 1881 at 30 North Villas, St Pancras, London, England, as Nephew [Head Uncle, Henry C Levander], age 5, birthplace Islington, London, and he was a Scholar.5 He was New Tag A William Geoge Levander was listed in 'The Men of the Imperial Yeomanry, Lovats Scouts and Scottish Horse in the Boer War of 1899 to 1902' as 'Levander, William George 28707, Sergeant 51st Coy., 12th Bn. I.Y.'
between 1899 and 1902.6 He was listed under The Civil Service Commission in 'The London Gazette Issue 32793 published on the 6 February 1923' as follows:

     'January 15, 1923. AFTER OPEN COMPETITION. Clerical Class (Men) William George Levander'
     
on 6 February 1923.7 He and Harold James Levander lived in 1924 at Arrandale, Nether Street, Finchley, London, England; and were on the Electoral Roll.8 William George Levander lived between 1927 and 1946 at Darb-el-Haj, Brokes Road, Reigate, Surrey, England.9 He married Amy Christina Gladys Uloth on 27 June 1927 at St Margaret, King's Lynn, Norfolk, England; and their marriage, indexed as William C Levander and Amy C G Vick, was recorded at Kings Lynn Registration district in the June quarter 1927 and announced in The Times the next day as 'William G Levander second son of the late F W Levand FRAS to Christine widow of Lieut A O Vick and daughter of the late H Wilmot Uloth.10,11,12' William George Levander was photographed and a copy of which is shown here in 1939.13 He and Amy Christina Gladys Uloth were recorded on an U.S., Index to Alien Arrivals at Canadian Atlantic and Pacific Seaports. She was age 51 and he was 63 in 1939 at St Albans, Vermont, United States of America.14 William George Levander the author of a Letter to the Times, which was given the title: 'The Repairs of Nature' and reported that although five week's earlier a nearby bomb had caused his front hedge and trees to loose their foliage this had grown back and the lilac and crataeca were now in full bloom plus the creeper which had been deposited inside the house was now in full leaf on 14 September 1944 at Darb-el-Haj, Brokes Road, Reigate, Surrey, England.15,16 He was executor to his Sister and The National Probate Calendar reads: 'Levander Florence of 11 Avenue-road Southend-on-Sea Essex died 21 April 1954 at The General Hospital Rochford Essex Probate London 1 July to William George Levander retired civil servant' on 1 July 1954.17 He died on 24 November 1960 at Surrey, England; and his death was recorded at Surrey South East in the December quarter 1960, at age 84.18,19 He left a will; and The National Probate Calendar of 1961 reads: Levander William George of Darb-El-Haj Brokes Road Reigate Surrey...Probate London 26 January to The Public Trustee and Marjorie Constance Donkin spinster'

     Susannah Elizabeth Oakes was born in 1838 at Camden Town, London, England; and her birth was registered at Islington Registration district in the September quarter 1838.3,1,4 She was the Daughter of Edmund Oakes, who was recorded as a Royal Navy Captain on her marriage certificate in 1866.2 She married Frederick William Levander F.R.A.S., son of James Levander and Julia Jones, on 22 December 1866 at Holy Trinity, Clapham, Surrey, England; and their marriage was registered in the December quarter 1866 at Wandsworth Registration district; Frederick was a Tutor of Clapham and Susannah was living in Bromley, Kent.5,6,2 Susannah Elizabeth Oakes appeared on the census of 3 April 1881 at 30 North Villas, St Pancras, London, England, as Sister [Sister-in-law to Head Henry C Levander], age 42, birthplace Camden Town, Middlesex.7 She was photographed and a copy of which is shown here in 1892.8 She died on 10 October 1893 at London, England; and her death, at age 55, was recorded in the December quarter 1893 at Pancras Registration district.1,9 Her estate was probated on 11 November 1893; and the National Probate Calendar for 1893 contains the following entry:

     Judah Jacobs was born circa 1808 at Aldgate, London, England; and his father's Hebrew name was Abraham.1,2,3 He married Fanny Jones, daughter of Aaron Jones and Nancy Benjamin, on 1 July 1835 at Hambro Synagogue, London, England; and they are recorded as Judah Jacobs, address Barbican, and Frances Jones.4,5,3 Judah Jacobs appeared on the census of 30 March 1851 at 4 Houndsditch, Aldgate, London, England, as Head, married age 43, birthplace St Catherine's Aldgate, London, and he was a Clothier and Warehouseman Employing 2 Men and 1 Boy. He was living with his Wife and Daughter Jane. Two Domestic Servants completed the household.2

He was believed to be the 'Judah Jacobs' listed and thanked in The Morning Chronicle for his contribution of £2 2s 0d in response to 'An appeal on Behalf of the Famishing Jews in the Holy Land', and acknowledged as one of those 'who without distinction of creed have in the true spirit of philanthropy so generously responded to the appeal' on 3 July 1854.6 He lived on 6 September 1871 at 32 Upper Blomfield Street, Upper Westbourne Terrace, Paddington, London, England; at the time his 'only daughter Katherine' was married.7 He died in 1887 at London, England; and his death was recorded at Paddington Registration district in the September quarter 1887.8

Alexander Jones appeared on the census of 7 April 1861 at 13 Paragon, Kent Road, Southwark, London, England, as Head, married, age 58, birthplace Whitechapel, Middlesex, and he had No Occupation. He was living with his Wife Jane.2 He was mentioned in the following item regarding his charitable donations which was published in the press:

'We understand Alexander Jones of the Paragon, New Kent Road, has placed in the hands of Mr E Alex £200, to be disposed of in the following manner: £100 to Jews' Hospital, Lower Norwood; £20 to Jews' Free School, Bell Lane; £20 to the Board of Guardians; £20 to Jews' Orphan Asylum; £20 to the Institution for the Relief of the Blind; and £20 (being a second donation of a like sum) to the New Borough Synagogue. 17.5.1867.6'

He died on 13 February 1881 at Sussex, England; and his death was registered in the March quarter 1881 at Brighton Registration district, at age 78.1,7,8 He was buried at Lauriston Road Cemetery, Hackney, London, England; and photographs of the gravestone are on the internet. He joined his wife who had died previously in 1863.9,10 He left a will; and the following information appeared in The London Gazette Issue 28522 published on the 15 August 1911:

     '...The testator, Alexander Jones, late of No. 4, Prince of Wales-terrace, Kensington, Middlesex, Esquire, died on the 13th February, 1881, partially intestate as to his real estate. The testator's heir-at-law has been found to be his grand-son John Alexander Jones (son of the testator's son also named John Alexander Jones). Lady Cusack-Smith claims that she is a grand-daughter of the testator's only sister and that if the said John Alexander Jones, the grandson, were to die in her lifetime, she (Lady Cusack-Smith) would be sole heiress-at-law of the testator, Alexander Jones...'

'Jones Alexander Esq. Personal estate under £120,000. 5 March.      Jane Moses Jones was born on 4 May 1874 at 23 Delamere Crescent, Westbourne Square, Aldgate, London, England; and her birth was registered in the June quarter 1874 at Kensington Registration district. She was her parents only daughter.4,5,6,7 She was the daughter of Joshua Moses Jones and Katherine Jones.3 Jane Moses Jones appeared on the census of 3 April 1881 at 34 Elgin Street, London, England, as Daughter, age 6, birthplace 'Paddington ((Aldgate)), Middlesex.8' She married Sir Thomas Berry Cusack-Smith KCMG 5th Bt in 1905; and their marriage was reigstered in the June quarter 1905 at Kensington Registration district, London.2,9 Jane Moses Jones was executrix of her husband's Will on 20 September 1929.10 She lived between 1936 and 1939 at 17 The Grove, Kensington, London, England; and she was listed as Dowager Lady Cusack-Smith.11 She died on 12 February 1942 at London, England, at age 67; and her death was recorded as Jane Cusack-Smith, in the March quarter 1942 at Chelsea Registration district, at age 67.12,6,13,14 She left a will on 16 January 1943; and Probate was granted on 16 January 1943. The following notice appeared in The London Gazette published on the 5 February 1943':

     ALL persons having claims against the estate of Jennie Dowager Lady Cusack-Smith late of 16, Basil Mansions, Chelsea in the county of London, Widow who died on the 12th day of February 1942, and whose Will was proved by Westminster Bank Limited, Mrs.Sarita Catherine Williamina Davies and Sir William Robert Dermot Joshua Cusack-Smith, Baronet, the executors therein named on the 16th day of January 1943 in the Principal Probate Registry are required to send particulars thereof to the undersigned on or before the 15th day of April 1943 after which date the executors will proceed to distribute the estate having regard only to the claims of which they shall then have had notice. —Dated this 1st day of February 1943.

     Sir Thomas Berry Cusack-Smith KCMG 5th Bt was born on 16 February 1859 at Dublin, Co Dublin, Ireland.1,5 He was educated at Eton and was a Barrister of Middle Temple in 1884. By 1890 he was 'H.M's Consul at Samoa and a Deputy Commissioner for the Western Pacific'. In 1892 he was 'Deputy Commissioner for Tokelau Islands and Acting British Resident' and the next year he was also 'Special Judicial Commissioner'. He 'acted jointly with the German and United States Consuls as Adviser to the King of Samoa; [he was] Receiver and Custodian of Revenue of Samoa; and President of the Municipality of Apia' 1893-97. He 'acted as HM Charge d'Affaires at Santiago, 1900 to 1902; HM British Consult in Valparaiso, 1898-1905; JP Brighton; DL Sussex 1921'. For his military details see 'Who Was Who Vol III.6,7,8'

He appeared on the census of 3 April 1881 at Lyne Private House, Chertsey, Surrey, England, as unmarried, age 22, birthplace Dublin, and he was a 'Student At Law.9'

He had a collection of his albumen photoprints, landscape oil paintings by Winifred Cusack-Smith and a Silver gelatin print from 1886 to 1894. These are preserved in The Alexander Turnbull Library, a division of the National Library of New Zealand. The photoprints include 'The Grave of Winifred Cusack-Smith' and 'King Malietoa, Thomas Berry Cusack Smith and some of the best polo players.10' He married Jane Moses Jones, daughter of Joshua Moses Jones and Katherine Jones, in 1905; and their marriage was reigstered in the June quarter 1905 at Kensington Registration district, London.11,12 Sir Thomas Berry Cusack-Smith KCMG 5th Bt lived between 1913 and 1928 at Aylesbury House, Furze Hill, Hove, Sussex, England.13 He was recorded in 'Fairbairns Book of Crests of The Families of Great Britain and Ireland' as follows: 'Cusack-Smith, Sir (Thomas) Berry, KCMG, of British Legation, Santiago, and British Consulate-General, Valparaiso, out of a ducal coronet or, a unicorns's head az.' Motto ' En Dieu est mon espoir' ['My God is my Hope']. Note: The crest illustrated is given as follows: 'Cusac-Smith, Bart, out of a ducal coronet or, a unicorn's head, az., armed or. En Dieu est mon espoir'.14,15

He died on 7 July 1929 at Sussex, England, at age 70; and his death was registered in the September quarter 1929 at Horsham Registration district. His address in 'Who Was Who' was Copsale Court, Horsham, Sussex.16,6,17,18 He was buried at Woodvale Cemetery and Crematoriaum, Brighton, Sussex, England; and the website cited contains biographical information: 'J.P. Consul General for Chile, Lt.Col. Home Counties Bdc. RFA. During World War I he commanded the 1st Home Counties Brigade in India and Mesopotamia.19'

He left a will; and probate was granted on 20 September 1929. The following notice appeared in 'The London Gazette Issue 33548 published on the 1 November 1929'

     'Sir THOMAS BERRY CUSACK SMITH, Bart., K.C.M.G..D.L., J.P., Deceased.
     Pursuant to Section 27 of the Trustee Act, 1925.

     Sir William Robert Dermott Joshua Cusack-Smith 6th Bt was born on 6 December 1907; and his birth was registered in the December quarter 1907 at Paddington Registration district.3,2,4 He was the son of Sir Thomas Berry Cusack-Smith KCMG 5th Bt and Jane Moses Jones.1 Sir William Robert Dermott Joshua Cusack-Smith 6th Bt appeared on the census of 2 April 1911 at 7 Albany Villas, Hove, Sussex, England, as Dermot Cusack-Smith, Son, age 3, birthplace Paddington, London.5 He was listed in 'The London Gazette Issue 33503 published on the 4 June 1929' as follows:

     'Territorial Army. 57th (Home Counties) Field Bde.—2nd Lt .W. R. D. J. Cusack-Smith to be Lt. 7th May 1929.6'

He was executor of his father's Will on 20 September 1929.7 He was 'M.F.H; late Capt. 57th (H.C.). Brig., R.A. (T.A.)' following his education at Brighton College and Corpus Christi College, Cambridge circa 1931.2,8 He married Dorothy Winlaw in 1932; and their marriage was registered in the September quarter 1932 at Ampthill Registration district, Bedfordshire.9,10,2 Sir William Robert Dermott Joshua Cusack-Smith 6th Bt lived after 1932 at Bermingham House, Tuam, Co Galway, Ireland.2 He and Dorothy Winlaw were divorced in 1945.2 Sir William Robert Dermott Joshua Cusack-Smith 6th Bt married Adele Mollie O'Rourke in 1946 at London, England; and their marriage was registered in the September quarter 1946 at Chelsea Registration district, indexed as William R.D.J.      Dorothy Winlaw was born on 25 July 1907 at Surrey, England; and her birth was recorded in the September quarter 1907 at Croydon Registration district. She has been described as being the third daughter of her parents.2,3,4 She was the Daughter of Rev George Preston Kelsall Winlaw, M.A. (1873-1960) and Minnie Ashley (1874-1945). and their marriage was registered in the September quarter 1901 at Saint George Hanover Square Registration district, London. They were to have several children. Her Father's parents were William and Jane Winlaw; abode: St Luke's Parsonage, Preston, whose occupation was Clerk in Holy Orders, and her Father was baptised by William Winlaw Incumbent.5,6,3,7,8,9,10 She appeared on the census of 2 April 1911 at The Confiers, West Beach, Selsey, Sussex, England, as Daughter, age 3, birthplace Morden, Surrey.11

She married Sir William Robert Dermott Joshua Cusack-Smith 6th Bt, son of Sir Thomas Berry Cusack-Smith KCMG 5th Bt and Jane Moses Jones, in 1932; and their marriage was registered in the September quarter 1932 at Ampthill Registration district, Bedfordshire.12,13,3 Dorothy Winlaw and Sir William Robert Dermott Joshua Cusack-Smith 6th Bt were divorced in 1945.3 Dorothy Winlaw lived in 1962 at Queens Gate, London, England; where she appeared on the Electoral Register with her second husband.14 She and Berry Cusack-Smith lived in 2002 at Norfolk, England.15 Dorothy Winlaw died on 30 August 2002 at Norfolk, England, at age 95; and her death was recorded as Dorothy Cusack-Smith/Teacher, at Kings Lynn Registration district in September 2002.4,16

     Jane Katharine Jacobs was born in 1848 at Aldgate, London, England; and her birth was recorded as Jane Jacobs at East London Registration district in the December quarter 1848.3,4,5 She was the daughter of Judah Jacobs and Fanny Jones.2 Jane Katharine Jacobs married Lewis Van Praagh, son of Morris Benjamin Van Praagh and Sarah Boam, on 6 September 1871 at 14 Grafton Street, Bond Street, London, England; and their marriage was registered in the September quarter 1871 at London C Registration district ['London City spans the boundaries of the counties of London and Middlesex'].

According to the press announcement they were married:

'by Rev. Dr. Adler, assisted by Rev. SM. Gollancz, of 66 Newman Street, Oxford Street, [the Groom was] fifth son of Morris Van Praagh of 18 Warwick Crescent, Maida Hill, to Jane Katherine, only daughter of Judah Jacons of 32 Upper Bloomfield Street, Upper Westbourne Terrace.6,2,7,8'

Jane Katharine Jacobs appeared on the census of 31 March 1901 at Elmstead, Glebe Villas, Aldrington, Sussex, England, as Wife, age 52, birthplace London, Aldgate.4 She was executrix of her husband and the National Probate Register for 1922 records: 'Van Praagh Lewis of 22 Burnaby-gardens Chiswick Middlesex died 11 January 1922 Probate London 4 February to Jane Katherine Van Praagh widow' on 4 February 1922.9 She died on 12 March 1928 at Middlesex, England; and her death was registered in the March quarter 1928 at Brentford Registration district, at age 79.10,11,12 Her estate was probated on 18 April 1928; and the National Probate Calendar for 1928 records: 'Van Praagh Jane Kathrine of 22 Burnaby-gardens Chiswick Middlesex widow...Probate London 18 April to Morris Edgar Van Praagh company director.12'

Lewis Van Praagh was reported in Jackson's Oxford Journal (Oxford, England) as apearing in a case held at the Vice Chancellor's Court concerning the theft of a silver tankard on 30 June 1877.11 He was listed in 'The Business Directory of London, 1884. [Part 1: Alphabetical Section]' as:

     'Van Praagh Lewis jeweller 10 Mason's avenue Basinghall st EC'

in 1884.12 He appeared on the census of 31 March 1901 at Elmstead, Glebe Villas, Aldrington, Sussex, England, as Head, age 56, birthplace Aldgate, London, and he was a 'Jeweller (Gold)'. He was living with his Wife Jane and Son Stanley.3 He died on 11 January 1922 at Middlesex, England, at age 77; and his death was registered in the March quarter 1922 at Brentford Registration district, at age 77.13,7,14 His estate was probated on 4 February 1922; and the National Probate Calendar for 1922 records: 'Van Praagh Lewis of 22 Burnaby-gardens Chiswick Middlesex...Probate London 4 February to Jane Katherine Van Praagh widow. Effects £89 18s. 8d.14'
