      William John Tune was also known as John William Tune.2 He was born on 16 August 1864 at Bentworth, Hampshire, England; and his birth was recorded at Alton Registration district in the September quarter 1864.4,5 He was the son of James Tune and Mary Trimmer.3 William John Tune was baptized on 25 September 1864 at St Mary, Bentworth, Hampshire, England.3,6,7,8 He appeared on the census of 8 April 1871 at 50 Holt Lane End, Bentworth, Hampshire, England, as Son, age 6, born Hants, Bentwoth and he was a Scholar.5 He appeared on the census of 3 April 1881 at Lenton Street, Alton, Hampshire, England, Son, unmarried, age 16 and he was a Groom.3 He enlisted at Bentworth, Hampshire, as William Tune, in the Hampshire Regiment, Regimental number 646, at age 19 years and 1 month, birthplace Bentworth, Hampshire, and he was a Groom on 12 January 1883.9,10 He appeared on the census of 5 April 1891 at Alton, Hampshire, England, as Son, William Tune, single, age 26, born Bentworth, Hampshire, and he was a Groom.11 He married Amy Allen Smith in 1892 at Alresford, Hampshire, England; and their marriage was registered in the September quarter 1892 at Alresford Registration district.12 William John Tune appeared on the census of 31 March 1901 at 4 St Lukes Terrace, Newtown, Southampton, Hampshire, England, as Head, married, age 36, birthplace Bentworth, Hampshire, and he worked as a Storeman and Corn Miller. In the household were his Wife, 5 children and 4 Boarders.11 He and Jane Elizabeth Carpenter lived at 4 Burfield Street, Hammersmith, Middlesex, London, England; and they were on the Electoral Roll of 1928 with 3 of their sons: Reginald Harry, Alexander Walter and Vernon David.
