     Ann Neal was baptized on 4 March 1827 at Holy Trinity, Rayleigh, Essex, England; and her parents were Ann and Edward Neal.1 She appeared on the census of 6 June 1841 at Back Lane, Rayleigh, Essex, England, as Ann Neal, age 14, birthplace Essex, with her parents Ed. and Ann Neal, both aged 35 and born in Essex.2 She married Abraham Nokes, son of John Nokes and Mary Such, on 30 September 1852 at Holy Trinity, Rayleigh, Essex, England; and the Parish Register records that the marriage took place after Banns were read. Both parties were of Full Age and were of Rayleigh. She was the daughter of Edward Neale and he was the son of John Nokes, Farm Bailiff. She signed as Ann Neal and he as Abraham Nokes. Although the Parish Register gives their names as Abraham Noakes and Ann Neale. Their witnesses were Susannah Nokes and John Wright; the latter witness signed with his mark X.
