     William Herbert Sizmur was born on 4 November 1888 at Christ Church, Ottershaw, Surrey, England; and his birth was recorded at Chertsey registration office in the December quarter 1888.3,4 He was the son of Alfred Sizmur and Eliza Mant.3 William Herbert Sizmur appeared on the census of 31 March 1901 at Addlestone, Surrey, England, as son, age 12, birthplace Chertsey, Surrey, England.5 He joined the Queens Regiment of the British Army at Guildford, Surrey, England, as a Nurseryman, and served in Gibraltar and Bermuda on 20 December 1904.6 He served in the British Army during the Great War and his WWI Medal Card, as William H Sizmur, for the 1914 Star, the Victory Medal and the British War Medal, records his 'date of entry therein' on 12 August 1914.7 He died on 13 October 1914 at The American Women's Hospital, Oldway House, Paignton, Devon, England, at age 25; and the Commonwealth War Graves Commission give the following information:-

'Sizmur, W.H. Rank:Private. Service No:L/8254. Date of Death:13/10/1914. Age:26. Regiment/Service:The Queen's (Royal West Surrey Regiment). Grave Reference: B8. 160. De Ruvigny's Roll of Honour, 1914-1919 records W H Sizmur 'died of wounds'. The British Journal of Nursing published the next month on 7 November 1914 describes the Hospital in detail and contains photographs of the building and staff.8,9,6,10,11 He was buried after 13 October 1914 at Addlestone Burial Ground, Addlestone, Surrey, England.8,12 He was commemorated as William Sizmur in the list of names on the Gate pillars at Addlestone War Memorial, Victory Park, Addlestone, Surrey, England.13,14
