     Edward Randall Shorland was born on 31 December 1870 at Oxford, North of Christchurch, Canterbury, New Zealand; and he was the youngest son of George Shorland, Chemist, who died 15 September 1901, and Elizabeth Mary Shorland (maiden surname Kesteven), His grandparents were George Shorland, Surgeon, of Westbury, Wiltshire, England, and Mary Shortland (formerly Randall).1,2,3,4,5
