      Her married name was Glazier.1 Hanah Young was born circa 1745. She married James Glazier, son of Joseph Glasier and Jane Chandler, on 9 April 1769 at Pirbright, Surrey, England.1 Hanah Young left a will; made on 11 February 1809:-

'This is the last Will and Testament of me Hannah Glazer of the Parish of Worplesdon in the County of Surry Widow wherein I commend my Soul to God and dispose of my worldly Estate as follows I will give and bequeath all and every my Monies Securities for Money Household ffurniture Plate Linen and China and in general all my personal Estate of every Sort and kind unto and equally between my Children Sarah Smither Wife of James Smither of Worplesdon aforesaid Husbandman Mary Burgess Wife of John Burgess also of Worplesdon Husbandman Elizabeth Voakes wife of James Voakes also of Worplesdon Husband James Glazer Hannah Sale Wife of Thomas Sale also of Worplesdon Husbandman Matthew Glazer Rebecca Jackson Wife of John Jackson of     Printer Ann Smith Wife of Edward Smith of Bisley in the said County Victualler Charlotte Glazer and Martha Mercer Wife of Joseph Mercer of Worplesdon aforesaid Husbandman To hold to them my said Children Sarah Smither Mary Burgess Elizabeth Voakes James Glazer Hannah Sale Matthew Glazer Rebecca Jackson Ann Smith Charlotte Glazer and Martha Mercer their Executors Administrators and Assigns for ever to and for their several and respective uses and Benefits absolutely Subject nevertheless and I hereby charge my said Estate with the payment of my just debts and my ffuneral and Testamentary Expenses And I hereby appoint my said Daughter Sarah Smither = and my said Son James Glazer Executrix and Executor of this my last Will and Testament hereby revoking all former Wills by me made In Witness whereof I the said Hannah Glazer (the Testatrix) have hereunto set my Hand and Seal the Eleventh day of ffebruaryr in the Year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and nine The Mark and Seal of Hannah Glazer X.

'Signed sealed published and declared by the said Hannah Glazer the Testatrix as and for her last Will and Testament the day of the date in the presence of us who in her presence at her request and in the presence of each other have subscribed our Names as Witnesses William Gonat ffras Niblett. This Will was proved at London on the twenty fifth day of August in the Year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and nine before the Right Honourable John Nicholl Knight Doctor of Laws Master Keeper or Commissary of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury lawfully constituted by the Oaths of Sarah Smither (Wife of James Smither) and James Glazier (by mistake in the Will written Glazer) the Son of the deceased and the Executors named in the said Will to whom administration was granted of all and singular the Goods Chattels and Credits of the said deceased they having been first sworn by Commission duly to administer'.2

She died before 25 August 1809.2 Her estate was probated on 25 August 1809; and the Will Proven.2

He married Rose Ellen Judd, daughter of Stephen Judd and Martha Ann Philbrock, on 22 August 1896 at St John The Baptist, Southend-on-Sea, Essex, England; and their marriage was recorded in the September quarter 1896 at Rochford.1,10,11 Herbert Harry Heffer appeared on the census of 31 March 1901 at 17 Ashburnham Road, Prittlewell, Essex, England, as Herbert Harry Heffer, Head, married, age 34, born Great Glemham, Suffolk, and he was working on his 'Own Account, as a 'Blacksmith etc'. No other person is recorded as being in the household.12

He appeared on the census of 2 April 1911 at 87 Holmesdale Road, Reigate, Surrey, England, as Head, married, age 43, birthplace Great Glemham, Suffolk, and he was a Shoeing and General Smith working on his own account. His wife and four children completed the household.13


He served in the Great War [WWI 1914-1918], rising from Private to Sergeant, and his Medal card in The National Archives records he was in the Army Veterinary Corps, No. SE6374, who gained the British War Medal, Victory Medal, and 1915 Star, serving from 8th June 1915 in France.14,15,16 He was photographed seated, with Farrier Clyde Abner Putt, of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, and another soldier at the B.E.F. Farrier School in France during WWI. His Son, John Putt, found two photographs safely kept in his father's possessions in New Zealand after his death in the nineteen sixties. The second photograph attached to Herbert Harry Heffer's record was taken on 31 May 1917 and John Putt says that on the back was the following note:

He and Rose Ellen Judd lived on 29 September 1939 at Holmsdale Road, Reigate, Surrey, England; where they were on the 1939 Register, when he was a Retired General Smith.18 Herbert Harry Heffer died on 28 November 1941 at Surrey County Hospital, Redhill, Surrey, England, at age 75; and his death was recorded at Surrey South Eastern Registration district in the June quarter 1941.19,20 His estate was probated on 2 February 1942; and the National Probate Calendar for 1942 records he was 'of 87 Holmesdale Road Reigate Surrey' and Probate was granted in Llandudno to 'Rose Ellen Heffer widow.20'

     Herbert William Stephen Heffer B.E.M. was born on 3 October 1900 at Southend-on-Sea, Essex, England; and his birth was registered in the December quarter 1900 at Rochford Registration district.1,4,5 He was the son of Herbert Harry Heffer and Rose Ellen Judd.3,1 Herbert William Stephen Heffer B.E.M. appeared on the census of 31 March 1901 at Union Street, Orsett, Essex, England, as Son, age 6 months, birthplace Southend, Essex, and his relationship to the Head of the Family was [maternal] Grandson.3 He appeared on the census of 2 April 1911 at 87 Holmesdale Road, Reigate, Surrey, England, as Son, age 10, birthplace Southend on Sea, Essex, and he was at school.6

He married Marjorie Ellen Arnell in 1929 at Middlesex, England; and their marriage was recorded at Willesden Registration district in the September quarter 1929.7 Herbert William Stephen Heffer B.E.M. and Marjorie Ellen Arnell lived between 1930 and 1931 at 118 Nutley Lane, Reigate, Surrey, England; and this was their address on the Electoral Register.8 Herbert William Stephen Heffer B.E.M. and Marjorie Ellen Arnell lived between 1932 and 1936 at 1 Springcopse Road, Reigate, Surrey, England; where they appeared on the Electoral Register.8 Herbert William Stephen Heffer B.E.M. and Marjorie Ellen Arnell lived between 1937 and 1945 at 40 Lesbourne Road, Reigate, Surrey, England; where they appeared on the Electoral Register and the 1939 Register.8,9

Herbert William Stephen HEFFER, Inspector (Reigate), London Passenger Transport Board' on 9 January 1946.2 He was executor to his Mother's estate and the National Probate Calendar for 1947 records Probate was granted in London to 'Herbert William Stephen Heffer sports secretary' on 28 January 1947.10 He was executor for his son Graham Edward Heffer, when Administration was granted to him as 'Herbert William Stephen Heffer, Retired Clerk' on 26 October 1967.11 He died in 1990 at Surrey, England; and his death at age 90, was recorded in December 1990 at Surrey South-Eastern Registration district.12
