      Thomas Fortune was also known as Fortin.2 He was born circa 1675.1 He married Dorothy Clauser on 4 July 1717 at Pirbright, Surrey, England.3 Thomas Fortune left a will on 28 July 1738; Thomas Fortune of Ripley, Send, yeoman 28 Jul 1738 all my copyhold cottage in Thorpe Green, Thorpe to my daughter in law Elizabeth Lipscombe; to my daughters in law Mary Dawborn wife of John Daborn and Sarah Foulk wife of Thomas Foulk £70 each; to my unfortunate daughter in law Dorothy Sawyer wife of James Sawyer £200; to be put in hand of my sons in law John Dawborn and John Lipscombe and Thomas Foulk to pay her intrest and nothing to her husband James; to my son in law Robert Clowser £5; to my sisters' children 1s each; residue to Elizabeth Lipscombe, Mary Dawborn and Sarah Foulk execs.

Proved 23 May 1740.4 He died before 21 November 1739.2 He was buried on 21 November 1739 at Send, Surrey, England.2

      Her married name was Forrester.6 Lilian Mabel Reed Beale was born on 10 August 1885 at Cowes, Isle of Wight, Hampshire, England; and her birth was recorded in the September quarter 1885 at Isle of Wight Registration district.1,2,7,8 She was the daughter of George Beale and Ann Netten.1,5 Lilian Mabel Reed Beale appeared on the census of 5 April 1891 at Newport Road, Northwood, Isle of Wight, Hampshire, England, as Daughter, age 5, birthplace East Cowes, Isle of Wight, and she was a Scholar.3 She appeared on the census of 31 March 1901 at 39 Matthews Park Avenue, West Ham, Essex, England, as Daughter, age 15, born Cowes, Isle of Wight.9 She married William John Forrester in 1905 at Essex, England; and their marriage was recorded at West Ham Registration district in the December quarter 1905.6 Lilian Mabel Reed Beale appeared on the census of 2 April 1911 at 29 Chatsworth Road, Stratford, Essex, England, as Lily Forrester, Wife, age 26, birthplace Cowes, Isle of Wight; in six years of marriage she had one child born alive and still living.10 She was recorded in The UK, Royal Air Force Airmen Records for William John Forrester, as 'William Mabel Reid Forrester', Next of Kin and Wife on 22 June 1918.11 She appeared on the census of 19 June 1921 at West Ham, Essex, England, as born at Cowes, Hampshire, in 1885.12 She and William John Forrester lived on 29 September 1939 at Pelly Road, West Ham, Essex, England; where they were on the 1939 Register when he was a Billposter and she was a Dining-Rooms Proprietress.8 Lilian Mabel Reed Beale died in 1974 at London, England; and her death was recorded at Poplar and Bethnal Green Registration district in the September quarter 1974.7

     Arthur George Gladstone Beale was born on 4 November 1891 at Cowes, Isle of Wight, Hampshire, England; and his birth was recorded in the December quarter 1891 at Cowes in the Isle of Wight Registration district.4,1,5,3,6 He was the son of George Beale and Ann Netten.1,3 Arthur George Gladstone Beale was baptized on 18 December 1891 at Primitive Methodist Church, Northwood, Isle of Wight, Hampshire, England.4,7,8,9 He appeared on the census of 31 March 1901 at 39 Matthews Park Road, West Ham, Essex, England, as Son, age 9, born Cowes, Isle of Wight.10 He appeared on the census of 2 April 1911 at 29 Chatsworth Road, Stratford, Essex, England, as Son, age 19, birthplace Cowes, Isle of Wight, and he worked as a '(Sign Writer) Builder'.11

He died on 10 July 1917 at Belgium at age 25; during the Great War [World War 1] and the Commonwealth War Graves Commission provide the following information:

According to UK, Soldiers Died in the Great War he enlisted at East Ham, Essex, and was a Rifleman who died of his wounds in France and Flanders, after enlisting at East Ham, Essex. In an online transcription of the names on the Nieuport Memorial, 62 other men from the King's Royal Rifle Corps, plus 174 from other regiments, making a total of 236 who have no known grave, died along with him on that day.

The British Army WWI Medal Rolls Index Cards, 1914-1920 show he was awarded the Victory and British War Medals. Details of The Next of Kin Memorial Plaque and Scroll are not recorded.12,13,14,15,16

He was commemorated on the Nieuport Memorial, Belgium, memorial which 'bears the names of 548 officers and men of United Kingdom forces who died during the First World War in operations on the Belgian coast, and whose graves are not known. A small number of those commemorated were casualties of 1914, mainly of the Royal Naval Division, who died in the attempt to hold Antwerp in October. Commonwealth forces did not return to this part of the line until June 1917, when XV corps relieved French troops in the sector from St Georges (now Sint Joris) to the sea. They saw particularly fierce fighting at Nieuport (now Nieuwpoort) in July, before handing the sector back to the French in November 1917. The remainder of those commemorated at Nieuport died during these months. The memorial was designed by W B Binnie with sculpture by C S Jagger'. at Nieuport Memorial, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium.17,12,18 He was commemorated at King's Royal Rifle Coorps Memorial, Winchester, Hampshire, England.19

     Bertie Harold Reuben Oatley was born in 1893 at East Cowes, Isle of Wight, Hampshire, England; and his birth was registered in the December quarter 1893 at Cowes, Isle of Wight Registration district.1,2,3 He was the son of Reuben Oatley and Ellen Netten.1 Bertie Harold Reuben Oatley appeared on the census of 31 March 1901 at 8 High Street, East Cowes, Isle of Wight, Hampshire, England, as Son, age 8, born East Cowes, Isle of Wight.4 He appeared on the census of 2 April 1911 at 8 High Street, East Cowes, Isle of Wight, Hampshire, England, as Son, age 17, birthplace East Cowes, Isle of Wight, and he worked as a Mariner.5

He was awarded medal(s) as a soldier between 1914 and 1920 and The National Archives contain the Great War (World War I) Campaign Medal card for 8/1046 Private Bertie H R Oatley of the 1st/8 Hampshire Regiment. He won the Victory Medal, the British War Medal and the 1915 Star. He served in the Balkans entering that theatre of war on 10 August 1915. In the same repository is his British Army Pension Record.6
