     Henry Howell was born on 24 July 1838 at Townwell Fold, Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, England; and his birth was recorded ed in the September quarter 1838 at Wolverhampton Registration district, Sub-district Wolverhampton Western.3,2,4,5,6,1 He was the son of John Howell and Mary Chalinger.2,1 Henry Howell married Sophia Butler, daughter of James Butler and Mary Ann Bennett, on 15 February 1858 at St Mark, Shelton, Staffordshire, England; and their marriage was registered in the March quarter 1858 at Stoke-On-Trent Registration district. This took place after Banns had been called. He was a 19 year old, Bachelor, Forgeman, son of John Howell, Collier. She was a 17 year old Spinster daughter of James Buttler, Spectacle Frame Maker. The address they gave was Red Lion Passage and their witnesses were Thomas and Mary Connell.7,8,9 Henry Howell lived on 15 January 1863 at Philip Street, Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, England; at the time he registered the birth of his son James and his occupation was Forgeman.10 He and Ann Maria Richards were witnesses at the marriage of Richard Butler and Mary Collins on 7 May 1865 at St George, Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, England.11 Henry Howell and Sophia Butler lived on 28 July 1865 at Salop Street, Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, England; with the family when Sophia was the informant of the birth of Lucy Mary Howell.12 Henry Howell appeared on the census of 3 April 1881 at 11 Margaret Road, Ince-in-Makerfield, Lancashire, England, as Head, age 42, birthplace Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, and he was an Iron Forge Worker. His occupation was entered as 'of 14 Prospect Place, Islington, former Iron Puddler' and his Daughter Lucy Punter was 'in attendance.16,17,18' He was buried on 24 February 1923 at Finchley Cemetery, Islington, Middlesex, England; and his Abode was recorded as 30 Twickenham Road, Isleworth, aged 83.19,20

     Florence Ann Howell was born in March 1874 at 3 Mason's Back Houses, Spring View, Lower Ince, Wigan, Lancashire, England; and her birth record gives her as Ann Howell born 29th March when registered on 11 May 1874. However her birth date was substituted to 30th March 1874 on 3 August 1874 entered in the presence of her parents.1,2,3 She was the daughter of Henry Howell and Sophia Butler.1 Florence Ann Howell appeared on the census of 3 April 1881 at 11 Margaret Road, Ince-in-Makerfield, Lancashire, England, as Daughter, age 7, birthplace Wigan, Lancashire, and she was a Scholar.2 She married Farquhar Collins Shaw, son of John Shaw and Catharine Mardell, on 18 November 1897 at St Mark, Victoria Park, Bow, London, England; and their marriage was recorded at Poplar Registration district in the December quarter 1897.4,5,6,7,8 As of 14 September 1899, Florence Ann Howell and Farquhar Collins Shaw lived at 154 Odessa Road, Forest Gate, London, England; and Farquhar Collins occupation at the time of his son John Farquhar's christening was 'Gentleman.9' Florence Ann Howell and Farquhar Collins Shaw lived circa 16 April 1907 at 35 Thackeray Road, West Ham, Essex, England.10 Florence Ann Howell and Farquhar Collins Shaw arrived on 1 July 1913 at London, Middlesex, Ontario, Canada.10 Florence Ann Howell appeared on a Certificate of Baptism issued by St William's Church, England, with one for her sister Sophia Agnes and was kept with Sophia's papers on 12 June 1935.1 She and George William Brock were partner.11 Florence Ann Howell lived in 1942 at Uhrichsville, Tuscarawas, Ohio, United States of America.12 She died on 26 November 1947 at 4703 Hampnett Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland, United States of America, at age 73; and her death as Marie A Brock was recorded by Baltimore City Health Department.5,13,14 She was buried on 29 November 1947 at Old Baltimore Cemetery, Maryland, United States of America.15,14

Arthur and His Three Sons
     Arthur Judd was born on 13 September 1859 at Orsett, Essex, England; and his birth was registered in the September quarter 1859 in Orsett Registration district.3,4,5,6,1,7 He was the son of Stephen Judd and Martha Ann Philbrock.1,2 Arthur Judd appeared on the census of 3 April 1881 at 87 to 93 High St, Messrs Barkers, Kensington, London, England, and he was a Grocer's Assistant. His relation to the Head of Household was Servant, age 21, birthplace Essex. Henry Graham was 'Serv (Head) Superintendent. Widower'. This was a large establishment as at this address lived 29 other Unmarried men aged 14-49.8 He married Ada Susannah Nokes, daughter of John Nokes and Mary Ann Mead, on 21 March 1883 at St Margaret of Antioch, Stanford-le-Hope, Essex, England; and their marriage was registered in the March quarter 1883 in Orsett Registration district.9,2,10,11 Arthur Judd and Ada Susannah Nokes lived on 16 May 1885 at 21 Coomer Road, Fulham, London, England; and Arthur was a Grocer.12 Arthur Judd was photographed c 1910-1921 seated with his three sons standing behind him.13 He was given as a Grocer on the marriage certificates of his sons' William and Alfred Reginald between 29 January 1911 and 8 December 1911.3,14 He lived circa 1923 at 60 or 65 Hainault Avenue, Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex, England.15,16 He was ill with He was advised to move out of London pollution and live by the sea. According to his nieces, Arthur's health improved when he did so circa 1923.15,16 He was retired circa 1923 at 212 London Road, Southend-on-Sea, Essex, England; but he worked in a Corn Chandlers with his daughter Gertrude and son-in-law Leonard. His granddaughter recalled '[my sister] and I used to go to 212 London Road sometimes, it was a Retail Business, with Farm Produce in sacks in the Window, as they used to have, and a Post Office in the Shop too.15,16,17' He died on 21 August 1924 at Brentwood Mental Hospital, South Weald, Essex, England, at age 64; and his death was registered in the September quarter 1924 at Billericay Registration district.18,15,16,19,20 He was buried on 23 August 1924 at County Asylum Cemetery, Brentwood, Essex, England.21

Warley can be divided into Little and Great - unclear which one is where she was born.3,4,2 She was the daughter of John Nokes and Mary Ann Mead.1,2 Ada Susannah Nokes appeared on the census of 2 April 1871 at Village, Stanford-le-Hope, Essex, England, as Daughter, age 9, birthplace Hornchurch, Essex, and she was a Scholar.5 She appeared on the census of 3 April 1881 at West Lodge, Upminster, Essex, England, as age 21, birthplace Warley, Essex.6 She lived before 21 March 1883 at Stanford-le-Hope, Essex, England.1 She married Arthur Judd, son of Stephen Judd and Martha Ann Philbrock, on 21 March 1883 at St Margaret of Antioch, Stanford-le-Hope, Essex, England; and their marriage was registered in the March quarter 1883 in Orsett Registration district.7,1,8,9 Ada Susannah Nokes and Arthur Judd lived on 16 May 1885 at 21 Coomer Road, Fulham, London, England; and Arthur was a Grocer.10 Ada Susannah Nokes and William Stephen John Judd were photographed and this is shown on the website circa 1921.11 Ada Susannah Nokes died in 1959 at Essex, England; and her death was recorded at Southend on Sea Registration district in the September quarter 1959.12,13

     Alfred Reginald Judd was born on 29 March 1890 at 73 Great Peter Street, Westminster, London, England; and his birth was recorded in the June quarter 1890 at St George Hanover Square Registration District.4,3,5,6,7,8,9 He was the son of Arthur Judd and Ada Susannah Nokes.3 Alfred Reginald Judd was educated between 8 March 1899 and 15 June 1900 at Wendell Park School, Hammersmith and Fulham, Middlesex, London, England; 'as Alfred Reginald Judd' and the family address was 99 Uxbridge Road; he had previously attended St Luke's School, Kilburn. His reason for leaving was given as 'Removed.8' He appeared on the census of 31 March 1901 at 264 Pentonville Road, Islington, London, England, as Alfred R Judd, Son, age 11 and the section on Employment Status was not defined.10,11 He married Bessie Annie Sanders, daughter of John Fishleigh Sanders and Wilfreda Wainwright, on 8 December 1911 at The Register Office, Willesden, Middlesex, England; and Bessie's nieces remember her as 'Aunty Bessie'; they do not recall if there were any children. At the time of their marriage both the bride and groom gave as their address 89 Glengall Road, Kilburn (London, NW6) and Alfred's rank or profession was 'Billiard Marker' [who is 'a person who attends on players at billiards and records the progress of the game']. Their witnesses were R L Sanders and A M Sanders.12,13,14,15 Alfred Reginald Judd began military service between 1914 and 1918, he served in Great War and would have been entitled to the Victory Medal and the War Medal.

He was photographed in Great War Army uniform. On the reverse was written: '... What do you think of Reg, not bad is it....' It is not possible from the photograph to decide if his Cap badge is the same as that of either of his brothers William Stephen John Judd or Arthur Stanley Judd to discover if they were in the same regiment between 1914 and 1918.27 He and Bessie Annie Sanders lived circa 1917 at Saltram Crescent, Maida Vale, London, England; and their nieces Margaret and Elsie could not recall what Reginald did for a living.12,13 Alfred Reginald Judd died in 1982 at London, England; and his death was recorded at Kensington and Chelsea Registration district in the June quarter 1982, age 92.6

     Gertrude Hilda Judd was born on 26 March 1893 at 73 Great Peter Street, Westminster, London, England; and her birth was registered in the June quarter 1893 at St George Hanover Square Registration district. She was the 'Youngest of the family with 3 brothers.4,5,6,3' She was the daughter of Arthur Judd and Ada Susannah Nokes.3 Gertrude Hilda Judd appeared on the census of 31 March 1901 at 264 Pentonville Road, Islington, London, England, as Daughter, age 8, birthplace London, Westminster.4,5 She married Leonard Frederick Lupton, son of Charles Lupton and Annie Masters, in 1915 at Essex, England; and their marriage was registered at Rochford Registration district in the June quarter 1915.7,8,9 Gertrude Hilda Judd was photographed with her sister-in-law, Ethel. Gertrude's nieces remember her as a very good looking woman who could "turn heads" when she walked down the street circa 1919.7,8 She and Leonard Frederick Lupton were photographed bathing at the seaside circa 1920 at Wittering on Sea, Sussex, England.10 Gertrude Hilda Judd and Leonard Frederick Lupton lived on 29 September 1939 at 212 (Shop) London Road, Southend-on-Sea, Essex, England; where they were recorded on the 1939 Register with their daughter Gertrude Joan, Ada Susannah Judd and an 'officially closed record'. He was a Corn, Flour and Seed Merchant (Dealer).11 Gertrude Hilda Judd was executrix for her Husband and the 1957 National Probate Calendar records he was 'of 83 Thames-drive Leigh-on-Sea Essex' and Probate was granted at London 'to Gertrude Hilda Lupton widow Gertrude Joan Prentice (wife of Kenneth Arthur Prentice) and Peter Frederick Lupton corn and flour factor' on 23 October 1957.12 She died in June 1979 at Essex, England, at age 86; and her death was recorded at Southend on Sea Registration district in the September quarter 1979.6,13

     Arthur Stanley Judd was born on 16 May 1885 at 21 Coomer Road, Fulham, London, England; and his birth was registered in the June quarter of 1885 at Fulham Registration district.4,3,5 He was the son of Arthur Judd and Ada Susannah Nokes.3 Arthur Stanley Judd appeared on the census of 31 March 1901 at 1 Buck Street, St Pancras, London, England, as a Servant, age 15, birthplace Brixton, London. He was a Hair Dresser's Assistant and his Employment status was 'Worker working at home.' There were 9 other people in household - but no other Judds. The Head of the household was his Employer Arthur Evans, who was a Hair Dresser. Arthur Evans lived with his wife, 4 daughters and 1 niece. Two other Hair Dresser's Assistants were lodging with Arthur Evans, they were Harry King, age 19, and Leonard King age 16.6 He was photographed with his father and two brothers between 1910 and 1925.7 He was New Tag his service in the Great War would have entitled him to the Victory Medal and the War Medal.

     Harold Vincent Pollard MBE was born on 18 June 1894 at Fleur-de-Lis Delft Street, Sandwich, Kent, England; and his birth was recorded in the September quarter 1894 in Eastry Registration district. 'The Fleur is ideally located in the heart of the ancient Cinque Port of Sandwich. It comprises a 11 room hotel, a spacious high-quality restaurant incorporating the town's old Corn Exchange, and an atmospheric bar.' 20/3/03.2,1 He was the son of Ellen Lucy Edith Roud.1 Harold Vincent Pollard MBE was the son of Albert Pollard and Ellen Lucy Edith Roud, married in 1893. Albert's first marriage was to Emily Ann Otley (died 1893) in 1883 and they had a son Albert Cecil Howard Pollard in 1885.3 He appeared on the census of 31 March 1901 at Castle Inn, Folkestone, Kent, England, as Son, age 6, birthplace Sandwich, Kent.4 He was educated in 1911; he was awarded a Certificate Stage I of Stage I of Practical Mathematics, Board of Education.5 He began military service between 1914 and 1918 and he was awarded '...three 1914-1918 War service medals.6,7,8' He married Grace Agnes Macculloch, daughter of Hugh Bowie Macculloch and Nellie Mary Ann Waltham, in 1923; and their marriage was registered in the June quarter 1923 at Islington Registration district, London.9,10,11,12 Harold Vincent Pollard MBE was There was a reference to him in The Shipbuilder and Marine Engine-builder. (1931) as: 'Mr. Harold Vincent Pollard, Senior Exp Officer, Department of Scientific and Industrial ...' in 1931.13 He and Grace Agnes Macculloch lived between 1937 and 1942 at 23 Berrylands, Surbiton, Surrey, England.14,15 Harold Vincent Pollard MBE was honour Harold was made a Member of the British Empire (MBE) 1 January 1951 and the Notice appeared in 'The London Gazette Issue 39104 published on the 29 December 1950'

on 1 January 1951.16,17 He was signature He was the Informant of his wife's death, when she was given as the wife of Harold Vincent Pollard, a Chartered Engineer (retired) on 21 March 1975.18 He left a will on 13 March 1977; and he gave the letters after his name as: 'MBE, C.Eng., F.I.Mech.E.6' He died on 21 March 1977 at Green Road, Thorpe, Surrey, England, at age 82; this was two years to the day since his wife had died and his death was registered in the March quarter 1977 at North West Surrey Registration district, and he was given on his Death Certificate as a Mechanical Engineer (Retired).19

He was cremated and in his Will asked to have his ashes scattered with those of his late wife at the churchyard in Linlithgow, Scotland.6
