Arthur Curlewis Young D.F.C. was born on 3 May 1916 at Claremont, Western Australia, Australia.1,3,4 He was the son of Arthur Hall Young and Maria Kathleen Curlewis.1 Arthur Curlewis Young D.F.C. was an elector on the Australian Electoral Roll and he was recorded as a Bank Clerk in 1937 at Kalgoorlie, Western Australia, Australia.5 He married Betty Bundaberg in 1941 at Perth, Western Australia, Australia.6,7 Arthur Curlewis Young D.F.C. was an elector on the Australian Electoral Roll and he was recorded as a farmer in 1943 at Swan, Western Australia, Australia.5 He was listed in the London Gazette published 19 May 1944 Supplement: 36525 Page:2351, at Government House, Canberra, 23 May 1944, Royal Australian Air Force, for the award of Distinguished Flying Cross, 'with effect from 8th May, 1944.8' He died on 10 November 1944 at Evans Head, New South Wales, Australia, at age 28; 'killed in an aircraft accident' during World War II serving in the Royal Australian Air Force, having enlisted on 3 March 1941, and the Commonwealth War Graves Commission provide the following details:

'The Sydney Memorial stands in Sydney War Cemetery, which is situated about 17 kilometres west of Sydney. By road the route is along the Great Western Highway (Parramatta Road), turning south into Marlborough Road which continues direct to the cemetery. The War Cemetery itself is in the grounds of Rookwood Necropolis, and the main entrance is at the western side, on the necropolis roadway. The Memorial is one of several which commemorate men of the Australian Army, Royal Australian Air Force and the Australian Merchant Navy who lost their lives in the south-west Pacific region during the 1939-45 War, and who have no known grave. The men commemorated on the Sydney Memorial were lost in the eastern and southern regions of Australia and in adjacent waters south of Latitude 20 degrees South. The Memorial is in the far right corner of the cemetery and takes the form of a semi-circular colonnade, standing on a terrace which is approached by three shallow steps. The piers of the colonnade carry on their inner faces bronze panels bearing the names. Some 750 names are recorded. John Baker was christened on 3 September 1696 at Pirbright, Surrey, England.1 He married Ann (?) circa 1720.1 John Baker left a will on 8 April 1769; John Bake of Pirbright, yeoman 8 Apr 1769 to son James messuage Russell Place, Worplesdon in the occupation of John Passenger which my mother Mary Martin lately settled on me and came to her by death of her cousin Henry Baker of Littlefield, Worplesdon paying £10 p.a. (over the £10 p.a. reserved to her on so settling) to wife Ann for life; to my said wife all my goods for life and to live rent free in my dwelling house and after the death of my wife all my goods to grandson John Baker; to son in law John Lee all messuage in Worplesdon in occupation of James Attfield at £25 p.a. rent to sell same and pay £150 each to his wife and my daughter Ann Martin ( I have partly provided for daughter Mary wife of Henry Ledger) and rest to be divided into three of which two parts to my daughters Ann Martin and Sarah Lee and the other third to be kept by John Lee and son James Baker for the benefit of daughter Mary Lee and her children; to said John Lee and James Baker all my freehold and copyhold messuage in Pirbright until grandson John son of John Baker is 21 and to pay £10 p.a. to my wife Ann granted by indenture of 8 Feb 1720/1 before our marriage and £14 p.a. I intend to charge premises of late son John's widow in her widowhood and if she remarries £4 p.a. for life; estate at Pirbright to maintain grandson John Baker and granddaughter Sarah Baker daughter of John, deceased until 21 and pay mortgage of £100 when granddaughter is 21 and when grandson John is 21 estate to him with remainder to granddaughter Sarah Baker pay £800 when Sarah is 21 between son James and daughters Ann, Sarah and Mary Ledger; to granddaughter Sarah Baker £50 to keep her to 21; to grandson John Baker £50 for same; execs to apply interest on £100 to my daughter Mary Ledger; residue to John Lee, James Baker and Philip Giles of Pirbright, blacksmith, execs in trust to keep grandson John Baker
